Chicago suburbs.
Ok I've seen this on many footprint maps, and it just clicked that this meant Continental U.S.

I've seen Conus written so many times and never made the connection until I was reading the Sat Guys Main Page and saw a deal for black friday.

Ok theres probably another word or acronym that left me clueless, so I'll start this thread as questions you are afraid to ask, could be anything, even something insignificant you won't lose sleep over.

Anyone can answer any query , and ask any question related to tech jargon , and if you learned something post a comment.

I think I know what you mean, but I'll add a few that tripped me up in my earlier days.

T5 - aka "Telstar 5" aka Intelsat Americas 5 (97 West -- the big bird of International FTA in the CONUS)
T6 - replace "5" with "6."
LOS - Line of Sight. The amount of southern sky that is not blocked by trees, roofs, garages, horizion, etc...
SR = Symbol Rate
TP = Transponder

IMO and IMHO

In my opinion or In my honest opinion.

Don't laugh , but LOL Lots of Laughs , had me clueless for awhile.

IMHO, IMHO means In My (not so) Humble Opinion :)

LOL can also mean "laughing out loud"

LOS threw me for a loop at first. I'm a space flight geek, so I knew LOS means Loss of Signal ... well at least when someone from NASA says LOS it means Loss of Signal ... more or less exactly the opposite of what it means in FTA lingo.

The ones I forget when there are newbies are

TP-Transponder
LOS-line of site
SR-symbol rate

Heck some people get FREQ confused

Hey Ice, this could make for an interesting sticky.

Satellite Terminology .

BIRD - Geostationary Orbiting Satellite

Here are a few:

STB = Set Top Box
PQ = Picture Quality
DiSEqC = Digital Satellite Equipment Control
IRD = Integrated Receiver/Descrambler
DBS = Direct Broadcast Satellite
FSS = Fixed Service Satellite
AC-3 = Adaptive Transform Coder 3 (Dolby Digital)
