Actually, BBC World is usually less in-depth. They never give any story more than 5 minutes at the most.

BBC World and CNN are generally aimed at the same IQ level, the middle-class professional.

CNN prime time programming (like Larry King) is dumbed down, but so is all prime time programming. The day time CNN programming is actually more hard news, and less biased than it was several years ago. "Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" between 4pm ET and 6pm ET is usually worthwhile, although heavily slanted towards politics (the last hour 6-7 is usually just a repeat of the earlier reports unless there is late breaking news).

Of course, BBC World has more programming on what is happening outside of the USA.

PS Dish does offer a EuroNews channel, check their website.

BBC World has several long-form news programs (interviews and cultural related to news among others) and one-hour newscasts that do provide the "depth" you speak of. The problem is that BBC America and KCET, Los Angeles (providers to Public TV Stations) do not air any of the really good long-form shows on BBC World. That is one of the big reasons I am dying to get BBC World 24/7. In fact, over the holidays, BBC World aired a few of the long-form shows instead of one newscast per day because of the holiday schedule. They were quite good shows.

There is more to BBC World than what BBC America and KCET, Los Angeles care to show us.

If Discovery is unable to secure distribution, KCET should extend their partnership with BBC to offer BBC World News as a digital subchannel for PBS stations. Even if they don't run it 24/7, it might be an idea to add blocks of BBCWN to the "PBS World" service, since it currently repeats in a six hour block format.
