here is the lowdown on the current offers today from both, i contacted both of them today, if you decide to go with directv for a 19.95 handling fee including installation, you get 4 recs hooked up, if you want hdtv, you purchase the rec for 299.00 and get 3 reg recs with it for the same handling fee, plus you get 6 months free hd pk included, you must commit to a years service, no dvrs included. if you want dishnetwork for 97.97 per month this is what is included with there dish digital advantage pk with no commitment and no equipment to purchase, you get a 811 rec for 1 room, plus a 311 dual tuner rec for the second and third room, this includes the americas everything pk w/locals 76.99, digital home advantage fee for 2nd rec 5.00, superstations 5.99, hd pk 9.99, there is no dvr included, you pay a one time activation fee of 49.99 and it will be credited on to your first bill you receive, this includes installation, so i for one am either going back to adelphia or dishnetwork, until more hd capability is available, doggone i miss voom already, due to the lack of hd channels from providers, thanks to a great group of guys and gals, i hope we can continue to grow and keep our user group alive , thanks, again , shaun

I think I'm going to do the comcast thing just to wait out the HD leaders over the next couple of months. Comcast has no commitment..... :smug

I just called Comcast to order. I inquired about the $25 off per month for DBS subs and they told me it had expired but that they could offer me a better deal. The deal I got is:

Comcast Digital Silver Package which includes one premium (HBO) @ 70.95/month
HD-DVR which obviously includes their HD channels (locals, INHD1&2,ESPNHD,DISCHD) @ 9.95/month

all that for $34.99/month for 12 months.

I asked the CSR multiple times if that price was correct and that it included the DVR. He said yes. I set up install for Sat the 23rd. I'll keep Voom alive until it goes dark.

So those of you in the D/FW area may want to consider Comcast as an option. That price is hard to beat.

Looks good for me....

I got signed up for Dish 2 days back too. Dish 811 HD receiver. No installation fee, activation fee credited to you. If you take the 1 year commitment, the hardware equipment protection is free, so if anything breaks down or you need to move, you don't need to worry.

Am I reading that correctly? Is it all that for $34.99/month for the first year?

im now going with dishnetwork, i found out tonight that adelphia you have to pay 10.95 extra for the second rec. and 12.95 for the first one what a rip off, plus 30.00 to have it installed. with dishnetwork i went with the digital advantage plan with 2 811's and 1 dual tuner 311, i do like the superstations, adelphia even charges you for the remotes, no dvr's or video on demand.

OK, I called twice E* to get this $250 for 942 offer. Failed twice, because I am not a new customer (my account is on hold for $5/month - $5/month Club Dish = $0.25/month in taxes since July 2004, when I switched to Voom).
So I will cancel E* soon when my Club Dish sertificate will expire and account will go to $0.00. I guess it will take no more then three months.
BTW, they offered 811 for $100 install fee. Before I had only one 6000 receiver for one HDTV I had. With Voom I bought Panny 500 and ordered two receivers.
I find E* options for obsolete soon receivers unacceptable.
So I called TWC and start feel better. For all HD they offer (including HBO and Showtime packages) + Road Runner they are asking $128 with taxes fixed for two years for HD DVR + HD receiver. I think it is very reasonable and they put on top of that offer $20/month discount for two years. So the total will be $108. (not because it is not Voom).
So I think that E* and D* are actually don't care about us Voomers.

If you live in Dallas area you might want to check again on the Comcast deals...

I'm getting the
Gold Package for $29.95 for 12 months
6Mbit Down/768K up broadband for $29.95
HD is free
HD-DVR is $9.95
Additional non-DVR $5.95
Additional HD-DVR $14.90
No installation, no commitment
Plus best of all the HD quality was better than Voom on (at least on the new encoders).

OR they will give you $400 in return for giving them any satellite receiver. I have a couple from my E* days, but the above deal was slightly better.

They are installing FTTC in the Dallas area. It should be able to support hundreds of HD channels. I have also heard that the broadband would increase to 40Mbit/s.

I have to say cable is certainly making a strong comeback.

If you are planning on D* or E* Try our sponsors... at the top. They will give you the best deal you could find out there. I switch to D* and had an excellent service with ValueElectronics. Speak to Robert, he will give you the best deal and mention that you are a member of satelliteguys.

I just turned on my Dish Network system to see if anything has changed in 6 months. Boy! am I spoiled by Voom! Think I will just do without for a while and rent DVD's.

Indy if you want to keep the HD channels on E*, you could downgrade to just HD Pack and it will be around $15-$20 per month. I did that to keep TNTHD.

I just called the dishstore.net number and told them I need two rooms installed with HD capability and wanted just a regular dvr not the hd dvr. She said I would only need 1 receiver and it would control both tv's. She didn't mention that I would get 6 months of free hd, is that something you have to ask for? Does the receiver scenario sound right? All these damn different receiver confuse the hell out of me. Thanks for any input.

If you want HD and a DVR, you need the HD DVR (942). That will do two rooms, one in HD and one in SD, or PIP on one TV.

Or, get the 811 (non-DVR) HD receiver, and a 522 SD DVR/receiiver.

If you want two rooms with HD, you need two HD receivers.
