Decades Replaced by StartTV

I remember when digital TV was lauded for PQ, 1080i even 720p picture was very good.

Now as stations pack their 6MHz with subchannels, PQ has dropped off the cliff, even 720p channels are looking bad.

We gripe at Dish for packing more HD channels on a TP but clamor for more ota channels packed into one frequency.

Not a lot of sense there.

I hear ya. My MeTV affiliate is 720p HD now and they brag like they did something monumental. The only hd I see is the commercials, them older shows on the DT1 still look like 480i.....

RabbitEars.Info KASW a Nexstar Station has added it but it replaces Decades. So maybe other Nextstar Stations adds it like in KS/MO/FL.

The only other Nexstar Station that has Decades is KOIN 6 in Portland....only reason Decades is on that Nexstar Station when they made the agreement with KATZ Broadcasting/NBC Universal to add their stations, Meredith had the deal with Laff/Grit/Escape/Bounce/Cozi on its stations already including Portland's KPTV/KPDX

Yeah ..

Same situation here in the LA market, where Weigel owned KAZA-DT 54-1 has MeTV in 720p HD.

Yet I and others could see no PQ difference between 54-1 and an SD duplicate of MeTV broadcast here on KDOC-DT 56-3.

But then one day I was speaking with the head of studio ops. for local KHTV-CD 27 the host station for KAZA in a repack CSA about another unrelated technical issue.

And at one point he addmitted that MeTV was not native HD, but only upconverted SD.

RabbitEars may be premature. Although KASW still lists Decades on channel 61.2, it is no longer a Decades affiliate. Its programming is now HSN. The Start TV website still does not list an affiliate in Phoenix, or even coming soon.

Weird...the channel label says StartTV, but the actual shows are HSN shows and are what is actually airing.

HSN replaced GetTV on WLFT 30.3 in Baton Rouge...that has to be the worst replacement on a digital subchannel slot...HSN, a shopping network period, and TBD for any classic subnet like Decades, Get, Movies...

Update: KASW's website is no longer showing the StartTV logo; it has been replaced by an HSN logo. StartTV may eventually come to channel 61.2, but not any time soon. #1 priority for KASW is moving from RF channel 49 to RF channel 27 on November 30.

Here in San Francisco, KPIX, the CBS O&O, has replaced "Decades" on 5.2 with "StartTV".

Has this happened at all of the CBS stations?

Yes, Decades channel is FTA on c-band on 101W. Along with MeTv, Grit, Start. Movies!, FETV, and H&I (Heroes). Get yourself a dish in your backyard!

Oh Ok, specifically on the SBS-1 satellite there I see ...

What happened was as long time DIRECTV sub., when the poster said "101W", it made me immediately think he was also a DIRECTV sub. and referring to their main satellite slot on the Ku DBS band there.

I actually receive all those channels here in the LA DMA as OTA diginets. Except for FETV which is carried by DIRECTV.
