Directv local channels streaming

MY parents live in the same zip code as I Do. They have directvnow which now has all the locals that they can stream on an iPad. I’ve had directv for almost 20 years but I can’t stream locals on my iPad on the directv app? How is that possible?

I think with the regular Directv app it depends upon whether or not the station is owned locally or nationally.

It's based on whether the station has a streaming agreement with DirecTV. But as I remember, other locals can still be streamed from your genie.
