Dish calls and wants to make appointment. Is this a scam?

For the better part of a year, I have been receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be DISH, same with Caller ID. Caller states that they have been notified that my system is having problems and can send a technician over promptly. Since I have not seen any problems and the timing was inconvenient I have put the situation on the back burner. And I guess I have gotten to be the suspicious type with all the phone scams perpetrated today (Microsoft, IRS, law enforcement, sell-your-timeshare, utilities shutoff, etc. fakes).

I know my receivers are connected to the internet, but did not think they sent feedback to DISH. And if there were equipment problems, why does the equipment not notify the user in some way?

So when called yesterday, I asked the caller which equipment was acting up ( I have 3 HWS and 5 Joeys). She couldn't tell me what tech was acting up or even what the problem reported was. But the technician visit would be free (free service call ???). At that time I thanked her for the call and promised I would make an appointment when more convenient. Assuming this is a legitimate DISH call, are they just trying to get someone in my door, with the cover of a service call, in order to up-sell me or some other way to get me to get out my checkbook.

Your receivers do report to DISH. There are times that they will report 'drift' and that raises a red flag. This is when DISH will call you to correct the issue which is at the dish itself, not in the house. Of course they will have to come in to make sure that their corrections work properly. You can call DISH, ask for tech support, and ask them if that is the case. Then you should be able to set a convenient appointment for both of you. This visit will be free....

Hello DishGXY. If your Hopper is connected to the Internet, our system will receive reports from the equipment making sure that everything is working well. However, if our system flags consistent error reports, we do have a team that will contact you directly offering an appointment to fix the issue before it becomes a bigger problem. This offer for an appointment will be noted on your account, so you can contact us to verify if it was our team reaching out.

Always, hang-up and just call Dish's legit 800 number and speak to them. They keep a log of all contacts with you and if there is a problem, it will pop up on the CRS's computer screen. This is the only way to truly verify that Dish has contacted you if there is any problem.

Absolutely! When in doubt, contact us directly. If there ever is an outbound call from Dish it would either be related to a case, an auto-call regarding a tech visit, or in regards to an ongoing signal issue. In any case, none of those calls would ask for verification or to ask to upgrade, it would be to address a signal issue or whatever the case is about.
