Flex Pack & Channel Packs Coming 8/4

[I wish locals were included or at least no so expensive; however, I guess that is why there are disputes and rising prices. If it was so easy to get the locals with an antenna 24/7, I guess I could live and get one of the OTA add-ons for our 222. The bonus would be the subchannels that are not on satellite at all. The Hopper seems nice as well, but we are trying not to spend so much on satellite. It is funny since when we started in 2009 with Dish that AT250 and HD&Platinum did not seem so bad and was even a lot cheaper than cable and DirecTV; that was also back when you still got a $5/month credit for having the phone line connected. lol However, the economy (although I am not trying to get political or anything...just in general) does not seem the best where some people I know sadly are being laid off and losing their jobs.]

The most important part I suppose to both quotes:

Couldn't the Latino Bonus pack be added for $9.99/month to get the Sirius XM channels to the Flex Pack? I wish it could be added to the Welcome Pack, but apparently, you have to have at least the Smart Pack with the packages available as of today.

FYI (It used to be $17/month): jnperry.net/2014/03/28/dish-network-latino-bonus-pack
The bonus pack is probably cheaper now simply because they have 3 decent priced Latino base packs that includes lots of English channels as well.

We used to have Dish Latino Dos after AT250 before the Turner dispute.
Sometimes you can even get a better deal with these packs than the AT packs depending on what channels one wants and at what price one is willing to pay.

But the trouble with the packs are that the few channels that you want are either not in a pack or it would take three or four packs at $10 each to get the few channels that you want. These packs need better grouping for the most users to be worthwhile.

Plus the chart shows that the local pack is in the Flex pack, but the chat session that I had told me that the locals were not included. So I had to go with the Welcome pack to get locals. We will see if this changes on 8/4.

Again, if they add all of these channels that people want, it defeats the purpose of the packs!

The chart doesn't show that locals are included either.

I agree, a bit like the wanting all the channels in 120 package

You don't understand the point of these packs then. They are meant to a) provide a good mix of popular channels and b) keep the prices reasonable (note that they are all $10 or less?).

I get it but - if your gonna call it a NATIONAL SPORTS PACK then at least include all the "National" sports channels. If I wanted to nitpick, CBS College Sports is missing as well. The Regional Sports Pack is much more comprehensive.

Dish loses subscribers every year, but makes more net profit each year. I am sure these new packs are about making more money by raising our price and most people will never notice.

If they went your way they would have to make it a $20, or more, pack. That's what they are trying not to do...

IF you need all the channels and the Flex pack and add on packs don't work for you then stay with the bundled top programming packs. But for me it has enabled me to get rid of Sports channels I never watched anyway. I am saving money over the top programming packs and I get just about all the channels I watched before. It is about having CHOICES. This system is the first step into ala cart packs. It will eventually lead to full on ala cart like Canada has now. Even the tv channel providers are rethinking having all those bundled niche channels and getting rid of those channels that aren't necessary and spreading the original programming over the channels that they keep. The rush in the 90s to add all those niche channels is over and now the contraction will start. It has to if people are to stay with pay tv. The constant price hikes are literally killing the current sat/cable bundle model and it needs to adapt and change or it will die out like the dinosaur that it has become.

I would go to the Flex Package right now if I could buy The Golf Channel a la carte. Even if I had to pay $20 for The Golf Channel, I'd still save big time. I'm paying $45 for it now.

QUESTION...

I am customer of two weeks so the DIRT team is already able to make the changes ahead of this Thursday?

I am already signed up for auto pay with my current Top 120+ and switching should make the price $29.99?

Thank you

Just call Dish and ask about switching. No need to have DIRT involved... Your contract stipulates that you maintain a minimum level of programming and the Flex packages may not qualify (yet).

Since I have been waiting literally YEARS for BBC World Service to be available via satellite in the USA (I remember hearing in 1993-94 that USSB was going to offer it on DSS, LOL never happened), I downgraded from AT250 to AT200, by doing that, I got the option to add the "News Pack" for $10. I also had to "add" Encore back for $6 and Heartland for $6 to get RuralTV/FamilyNet for the old shows. So, I end up paying more for a little less, just what Dish wants I guess. It was simpler than changing to DirecTV for it (even though it's in HD on DTV) and I absolutely hate DirecTV's equipment with a passion. But what some fu*#ked up $h#t to have to do to get BBC World Service. I don't know why they can't just be normal and put it in AT250 and AEP for FREE along with the MTV Suite too. They must be on acid in the programming and marketing department.
