I miss 4X, too. I can't tell you how often 15X is just too fast for a relatively short REW or FF--and using skip FWD or Back for such a 4X job is highly USELESS. 4X is the Goldilocks zone.

I would like a built-in internet browser and more streaming movie channels like they do with Netflix and Prime, plus a remote with a keyboard (or linking to a wireless one) for typing in addresses in the browser search box; typing using the on-screen keyboards is... tedious.
Currently, I have to switch to another input, pull up FireTV, find the Silk browser, then use the joystick to slow sadly enter what I am searching for. Ugh.
The smart tv also has a browser, but, same deal.

For anyone looking at this thread which just sprung back to life, be aware that there is no Hopper 4 on the way. Instead, DISH is in the process of rolling out a new accessory to the Hopper 3 called the Hopper Plus. The Hopper 3 plugs into the Hopper Plus, which itself connects to the TV via HDMI. The Hopper Plus provides a new redesigned home screen that integrates access to a broad range of streaming apps from the Google Play app store. (These are Android TV apps.) You continue to use the same Hopper remote.
To get this new upgraded home screen and app capability on secondary TVs, switch out their existing Joey receivers for the new Joey 4.
The 50.0 remote has a trackpad. Above the trackpad, there is a "123" button that pulls up the on-screen number pad. Below that button, it says "abc" which to me indicates that a long press of that button should pull up a keyboard (on screen and/or on the trackpad, just like the way the number pad appears) but I have not been able to get that to work. Does anyone know if there is a way to pull up a keyboard on the 50.0 remote?
Google Play store, so most likely Google Chrome, and any other browsers they may offer. Wireless keyboards may be able to connect via Bluetooth, but I do not know if that has been verified yet.

I did love the dishplayer till the Microsoft vs DISH war began and they caused all kinds of software bugs. Then it was sending in the receiver for replacement over and over till I gave up on it and went with a basic receiver, till the 501 came out. I was still using my vcr back then to record some things. But when it started the dishplayer /web tv receiver was cool and my first exposure to the internet at home was the web tv in 1999. Got my first real computer in 2001, so the web tv for internet paled in comparison.
Does it have to the TV? I don't have my Hopper plugged into the TV but my Denon 9.2 AVR receiver to select and play many different devices.
I think the HDMI from the Hopper+ can plug into either the TV or the AVR.

Actually , an H4 would make sense. Updated chipset, built in Hopper Plus, DTV reception ability, red recording in progress light (be still, my beating heart!), an additional bell and two whistles. As in HopperFOUR, due out in 2024. Maybe. Dish SOON

I do agree with this, though. It would be less clunky than requiring Hopper 3 users to add an additional box, and change the way their existing box connects to the TV. If Dish is going to have to come to the customer's home to add the new equipment anyway, they might as well upgrade the entire Hopper to a newer model, and be done with it.
From Team Summit they said its coming in Mid to the End of July.
It was released for early testing in some markets. I am not sure if Dish is still doing that, but it may not hurt to go ahead and call them to ask. Compiled from a list posted on the other site, and another thread on this site, those markets were/are:
Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, and Seattle.

They were still not sure at Summit. But most everyone was pushing for free. Remember this is a tool to keep people with Dish so they better not charge a lot.

If there is a fee for the Plus, I'd prefer it be a one-time per account fee like the external drive/DVR fee for the VIP receivers.
I assume you mean ViP211 series / Wally receivers. Originally, there was also such a fee for the DVR models, but then Dish made that EHD functionality free for the native DVR models. Customers who had already paid that $40 fee were understandably upset that others were now getting the same thing for free. And of course, there was never even the option of adding an EHD to the ViP222 series, even though that was a feature that was originally announced when the original ViP222 first came out.
