Mexico signal issues

Where are you located? In Mexico City not even a 2.40m dish would do the trick.

Hello gonzalo, if the person at least receives some levels there's always a solution....
what gain (size) is needed is what he needs to research.

Regarding DBS satellite signal (not only 119 W):

I had problems with 1.8 m and I solved with 2.4 m
I had problems with 2.4 m and I solved with 3.8 m
I had problems with 3.8 m and I solved with 5.0 m etc, etc, etc.....

how much do you want to invest might be the limiting factor.

As I have posted previously:

1.- Key factor: he receives some transponders.
2.- Difficult variable: He wont post antenna brand (we also need to know size, gain).

If you don't use a well know antenna brand you can't calculate or proyect your needed gain.

Also there are cheap spectrum analyzer that can give dB and you could calculate or project the needed gain.

In fringe when things aren't achieved with 1.8 m nor 2.4 m things get tricky and expensive.

This is off an old 1.1 M RCA dish in Baja California Sur. We actually gained signal on some transponders:

We lost TP-4 but gained TP-9.

TPs -1, -3, -5, and -7 have always been 0.

Looks like Cancun, Merida and Cozumel were hit hard. Here are the readings for a 1.2 meter dish from June 18th, sent to us by one of our clients in Cozumel, Yucatan Peninsula.

Among many other lost channels, they also lost the Miami Local Networks (ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox), which had been coming in on a spot beam. We were able to get them the San Francisco and New York local networks instead.

I think it's a matter of the distance between Cozumel and non-central Cancun. I'm in Cancun, south in the Hotel Zone and literally on the shore of the Caribbean. I only have issues with TP 7, 8, 9, 13 and 17 and these issues are time sensitive. Between about 9 PM and 9 AM I have reception of all transponders except 1 through 5, which is to be expected.

The 5 transponders (7, 8, 9, 13, 17) begin to peter out between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM, probably due to wobble. They re-appear in the late evening. I'm hoping that a 1.8 meter dish will solve this.

My NYC locals (CONUS) are totaly unaffected 24 hours a day. I'm using an old DirectTV 1.1 meter dish with dual LNBs for 110 and 119. I'll try to post TP figures tonight.

I believe DISH is trying to encourage people to sub to DISH Mexico service instead of trying to get it by using dishnetwork out of country. That is why they narrowed the beam and cut it off at the border for 119. As I said before, DISH needs to add english pack of channels to DISH Mexico so out of country ex-patriots can see their national channels and possibly networks from AAD.

that and get rid of the hackers in Mexico by taking away their signal

This is getting beyond silly. First, those of us who receive Dish in Mexico pay real United States dollars and probably make Dish very happy because out of necessity most of us autopay with paperless billing. By receiving a signal we are not diluting or harming any Dish users in the continental US. We are not affecting your service or your reception. We don't "hack", we don't steal, we pay and for the most part we don't get any freebies. The cost of a 322 from one of the Mexican installers would make your jaws drop. No free antennas, no free installs, no free maintenance.

Second, the new footprint of E*14 at 119, plus the new forward error correction scheme is designed to improve service to Dish's target customers in the US. They're not trying to force those of us in Mexico to change to Dish Mexico. It's a totally different, Spanish language service competing with Sky Mexico and Cablemas. and does not have the programming content that we Dish USA users want.

We are the inadvertent victims of these changes, which were not targeted at us, and as the upcoming weeks roll by we will figure out how to get back what service we can, or switch to another provider like Shaw.

These accusations of theft, stealing signals, etc are just plain juvenile and they ought to stop.

I will tweak my antenna the weekend.
I have right now pointed a 1.50 meter steel offset antenna to the 119

This antenna was bended and I could rescue it. I am getting a lot of signal to receive tp 6,10,11,14,15,18,19. Mexico City should have almost same readings.
My LNB is a Eagle Aspen.

A new 1.50 antenna with out bendings should gain probably 1,2 db. But this will not be enough to receive the other tps that are 12 points below if signal.

For the future I will try a 1.80 offset also metal.

I would avoid fiberglass local done antennas. they try to copy a andersen or that type of antennas.

My 1.50 antenna like it is has more gain than a 1.80 homemade fiberglass antenna.
I dont trust therefore al type of antenna that are being sold.

a 1.80 steel offset should be working like a 2.40 meter or more.

So lets wait `providers start seeling them.

I have found already a supplier in Taiwan and I am thinking bringing one to test it.

Let us know how it works. Even though I'm not in Mexico if they work well I would like to get a larger offset ant for something else I want to do.

Sorry for the delay. Couldn't get anyone to adjust my dishes until a few days ago. What I have are 2-2.4m fiberglass (probably copies) dishes with DP lnbs and cascaded DP34 switches. They have been in service for 10 years.

When I preview my post all the columns change position and I'm unable to correct.
First column is transponder #.
Second column is Signal Strength at 11AM.
Third column is Signal Strength at 11PM. Hope this helps.
