I need some help; I just switched over from Voom. I am having a problem getting all of my OTA networks in HD (yes I have an OTA antenna) I have NBC (5.1), WGN (9.1)
and Fox (32.1) but I can not get CBS (2) or ABC (7) I checked the signal strength and 7 and 2 do not even show. I do not understand this since I received all the channels when I was using the Voom box. I did not move the OTA I live 16 miles from Downtown Chicago signal should be no problem. Any ideas?

I called cust service and the butt heads told me to read the owners manual for my box (I did but just for fun), they were not much help. I will go crazy if I can not get all my networks in HD

What box do you have and you may need to amplify your antenna signal. I think I read somewhere that the Voom box worked as an amplifier aswell. Someone correct me if I am off base here.

I'm assuming that all the Chicago stations have their antenna farms in roughly the same location. If they don't this won't help.

Go through your guided setup procedure all over again. Then check to see if you have a signal on channels 7 & 2.

If this does not help, call D* back and ask to speak to someone in Level 2 tech support.

Good luck!

still not working

I went thru everything again and still no 2.1, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 they read searching for satelite 771 and 9.1, 9.2 are very weak about a 50 signal strength. I was getting all these channels with voom so I dont get it. I called D* CSR and talked to level 2 rep and he was super but was lost as well. I am 8 miles away from the broadcast attenna so this should be no problem.

D* is sending a tech out to see if maybe the cable was streached or damange duting install or to check the H10 box to see if its bad.

By the way my other OTA channels are at 98 signal strength its just those few.

I will keep you updated! let me know if you think of anything else

Ok tech was out on Sat, HE WAS AN IDOIT!! He new nothing about HD did not know what the optical cable was for my audio and told me I did not need it. Took my HDMI-DVI cable off and replaced it with an s-video cable. I kicked him out of my house and fixed evrything he screwed up, He also told me their were no such channels as 2.1,5.1 7.1 9.1 and called me a name when I told him to leave, Im sure this could have gotten much worse but being 6'5 and 275 LBS people usually dont mess with me too much!

So I talked to tech support again! Here where it gets real intresting, While on the phone I was watching the signal strength it would jump from 10,20,10 to 255%! He said that was impossable but it keeps happining and he ended up beleving me. After about 1/2 hour he came up with an idea the old voom antenna needing an inline amp to pull the other channels, I reminded him of the 255% reading he said Oh maybe thats not a good idea. Now they are sending a "Specialist" out on FRI, in the meantime any ideas?

I ran into that also with the DTV recevier. Had to re-tweak re-point my ANt and the DTV reciver was very sensitive to multipathing issues.

that signal jump is a multipath... keep that in mind....

when i switched from E* to D* i discovered taht suddenly my OTA antenna was not nearly enough and had to put a new one out on my roof just to get the same cahnnels i was getting with the other stb.

I think i read somewhere that voom stb's power an amp in an antenna... could be very wrong on that as i didnt pay too much attention to it...

that 255% sounds like a car going by cuased a very strong signal to bounce... but that is an assumption.

The VOOM stb does power the ant. Yesterday i decided to disconect my VOOM dish from the connectors at the same time i tried to hook up ota ant. direct to stb. bypassing all diplexors. Lost half of my ota stations put the diplexors back on multi switch to power ant. They all came back. 24ota till the dust clears and we see mpeg4.

you know I can get everything but 2.1 out by me in Dekalb so there has to be something more going on here.
Have you gone through and re-scanned the OTA ant input? you might want to try that.
Also what type of ant. do you have? living that close to the towers you outta be able to get by with a interior antenna like the Silver Sensor for example.

Also, living so close you shouldn't need a amp on the antenna. My thoughts are that if you suddenly lost stations after simply disconnecting the Voom receiver then there may be a amp that would need to be removed.

You could stop by a Sears, or a Circuit city and try out a Zenith Silver Sensor antenna. If that will allow you to pull in 2.1 and 7.1 and 7.2 then you can be certain that your issue is existing antenna related.

I feel your pain I have a similar problem receiveng some local channels in HD. My problem is with FOX. I am only about 7 miles from the staiton. I called DTV they also sent out a real idiot. He showed up at 10am last friday. He stayed till 1015am his answer this is an unfixable problem I am sorry and thus he left. Looking for an answer I posted a similar message here on this board and was given an answer buy one the many very knowledgable STAFF members. I will try to quote his answer but he basically mentioned for me being in one of the top tweleve markets(here in philly) I will be upgraded in the next 4 months to a new receiver and new equipmnet from DTV which will also include a new dish which is supposed to receive local hd signals through the dish and not a OTA antenna any longer thank goodness. That makes me a little more happy about the situation. So I am going to wait for the upgraded to happen and hope all things are better after that.

thanks for the all the advice! I have a guy (in Chicago there is a guy for everything you know, but not that sicko) that is going to take a peak if the tech can not fix it on Fri. I will keep you up to speed folks! Untill then

may the hd be strong with all of you!
