I have a vip 211 that has died and I need help deciding on a replacement. I have a 622 that is working fine with an EHD full of recordings. It is on my main tv and connected to an OTA. The 211 is on a side room tv that doesn't get used very often. What are my best options? Should I just get a replacement 211? If I upgrade to a Hopper and Joey would I lose my EHD recordings and OTA? Thanks for the help.

Both of those receivers are getting pretty old. My suggestion would be a Hopper w/Sling (aka Hopper 2) and a Joey. I think that a Hopper 3 (16 tuners vs 3 for the HWS) may be overkill for your needs. You can add OTA by purchasing either the Dish dual tuner adapter or the AirTV dual tuner adapter. I purchased the AirTV adapter and saved $30 over the Dish model. Go to the Dish Forum for more details.
any chance for a new dual tuner ota dongle?

I have two HWSes. I recommend if you’re going to upgrade, get the latest- it will last the longest. That would be the Hopper 3.

Or consider a Wally.

You can move your ViP622 recordings to an EHD, which the HWS or Hopper 3 will recognize. If not immediately, after a day or so. Make it a self powered EHD.

Does the OTA Dongle for the Hopper work as well as the tuner in the 211k? In the beginning there were complaints. I wonder if they fixed the issues? I do know the OTA tuner in the 211k is very good.

Also the EHD on a 211K is free once activated, no monthly charge for DVR. Sometimes they'll even wave the activation fee (did for me).

But 622 EHD recordings will not play on a 211K.

Another question the TS asked was about OTA. Most people are now using the $21.00 AirTv dual dongle on their Hoppers.

There are many considerations. The most simple probably is just get another 211. I'm guessing you never wanted to watch any of the recordings on the EHD from the 622 on the 211 - since that is not possible, so I am also guessing you don't care about that now.

Sometimes the most simple isn't the best option though. I think Voyager6 was getting at that 622 may not last all that much longer. Maybe this is a good time to update. You may not need 16 tuners the Hopper 3 has but that's the Hopper to get if DISH will give you one. If you qualify for the Hopper 2 that's the next best option. You mention a side room where you don't watch often. You can simply get a Joey from them the cost is $7 a month. IF you don't watch for over a month or months at a time you could buy a Joey and only activate it for the period of times you want to use it, saving $7 for the months you don't need it. If you watch in that room on a whim however that isn't so convenient.

Or, he could buy a FireTV stick and watch via Dishanywhere. That's what I do on my "occasional" TV in my office.

Thanks! I think I am going to go with a hopper 3 and a Joey. Do we still have DIRT members around that can help with this?

I have an installation set for Wednesday morning. My OTA is currently configured to piggy back on the SAT cable via a diplexer. Will this still work with the hopper setup?

No. Diplexers not compatible with Hopper system. You'll need to home run it to Hopper

Darn. I guess I can hook it to my home distribution out cable that was connected to the 622. I will not be needing those connections anymore.

I can't believe I saw this on a basic cable/satellite channel!
