It's transferring that much heat through the short (6" ?) USB cable ? If so, that's really bad.
I think he means the coax connected directly to the tuner, not the USB cable.
I'm sure he means the RG6 coax cable connector from the antenna.
I've had to revert back to my single tuner dongle to get stable OTA channels, the dual tuner dongle was all over the place id scan and get 6-9-12-24-27 channels. I switched and my single tuner gets 27 channels through numerous scans.
Sadly, I predicted this when I learned that Hauppauge was the manufacturer. Their newer dongles are just plain crap, in my experience. Overpriced, overheating junk.
Most likely Dish saved $2 per each module sold. And they don't work well. The new adapters are now made in Malaysia, a place that is not known for quality high tech production, to say the least.
If it was Singapore, then it might be different..
I once bought some Jockey underwear that was made in Malaysia and it seemed to be okay. But technical gear is something quite different.
Products have manufacturing specs that must be met and where they're made has to bearing on this. China can make high-quality stuff, as can India, as can wherever. If the company that's putting their name on the product has low-quality standards or specs, blame them, not the builder.
I blame Dish for choosing to use Hauppauge as their vendor when the old tuner from Pace worked fine. I'm sure it boils down to a cost savings for Dish, as Mitch mentioned.
Well my 6 foot USB extension cable came and I now have my dual tuner outside of my open face cabinet and have not been having any issue of the total signal loss that I was experiencing when it was sitting just behind my hopper 3 in the cabinet. The tuner is warm yet but I am hoping it will now get more air movement for cooling. Fingers crossed!
I actually place my dual tuner to the left of the rear of the Hopper 3 for similar reasons. I didn't add any extra USB, I simply placed it in the open. When I had it directly behind the Hopper, it would not see any channels. It actually sits behind my center channel speaker so you can't see it.
Exactly, it's all about quality control. Just like those british high end audio manufacturers have engineering done in england while the thing is made in China but the quality control is done in england results in a high-end product. Almost all of the speaker drivers are made in China yet they are used in the high end brands without issues.
Are we talking about Pace, the company that makes modems for DSL? If so, Pace is owned by Arris who basically is the supplier to the Cable companies with the Arris Cablemodems and also makes other cable tv gear so that may be the reason.
