I just had DTV installed today. Been a longtime DISH customer. The tech installed a HR44 said they didnt have any HR54s. Shoul I have refused the install? Is the HR44 decent?

unless you already have a 4k tv, you will usually get an HR44. The HR54 will support a C61K for a single 4K channel, the HR44 won't. Otherwise the electronics are basically the same.

Were you supposed to get a 4k upgrade? If not, the HR44 is what you should get.

So, did you really come here to the D* forum to spout how bad it is ?
Or do you have any thing positive to help those that are looking for advice ....

I have used the HR44 and the HR54 and the 4k client and have been pretty happy with all of them.
There are many people here that have also had good experiences with them ...
Yes, there are those to that have had issues, you ALWAYS hear more from those not happy ...
Over all I've been pretty happy with the service ...

Much better than streaming experiences many have had.

Thanks Karen. Spectrum sucks in my area. I’m pretty happy with my choice so far.

That’s funny considering the TiVo edge is a complete POS

Why do you think that? Other than the fact it can only run Hydra, which I don't want for multiple reasons, I don't see any reason why it would a step down from my Bolt. I don't see any reason why it would be a step UP either, though...

Hydra has nothing to do with it. I love Hydra. It however still has a lot of bugs and even features missing from the Bolt. They have been very very slow with addressing issues

I have no intention of ever switching to Hydra because they've dropped features from it like the live guide (which I love!) and thumb ratings (which I use to help remember movies I've seen) and because they are now pushing ads at people on it. If you stick with TE3 you don't get the preroll ads.

Originally I was just waiting for them to shake out the bugs - I stuck with the SD GUI for a couple years after the HD GUI came out until I started hearing fewer complaints about how slow and buggy the HD GUI was, and figured I'd do the same with Hydra. When I found out what it was missing, I knew I would never switch. The preroll ads on Hydra are just the icing on the cake for the correctness of that decision!

I love my Bolt, it was a huge improvement over the Premiere.
Well I can't really speak to either one, since the 4 Tivo's I currently have, are all Roamio models. But since I'm still on TE3, they ALL run beautifully & quickly, & do their DVR functions as they are supposed to...which IS what their primary functions is/was supposed to be. (except for the continued garbage Rovi guide data, which affects ALL Tivo's models regardless) I hope & I'm glad Rovi is NOT trying to shove move features &/or "apps" on these older models, as obviously they are not designed to run more things like that...which is why they continue to run as good as they do now. Plus if I want to run apps, that's what Roku &/or other streaming devices excel at & are dirt cheap to buy!

I have no idea about the Edge, I wasn't the one who criticized it. Haven't had any heating issues with my Bolt but it is in an open air shelf not one of those that's walled in on all sides nor is it surrounded by a lot of other hot equipment.

I have never used Hydra, I'm sticking with TE3 because I won't give up Live Guide and they are pushing preroll ads to the suckers on TE4/Hydra.
