Nimiq 4 strength

hi bayguy, i too am in SF but am not quite seeing the results you are. What size dish do you have?
We just have a little one. We dont have HD so just a 18" round dish pointed at 91.

What are you seeing or not seeing? also do you have the new smart card? we haven't gotten ours yet so we have almost no channels left. :( But our xpdrs are all good in the 70's and 80's.

So with that said the only thing that can probably help you is getting a low signal-to-noise ratio lnb for 82, or making some minor adjustments to your satellite starting at about 7pm to see if you focus the satellite more on 82 instead of 91 you can bump the signal enough.

What would you recommend and how would it compare to the legacy LNB from BEV?

82 on the VA/NC border

I live on the VA/NC border and I get transponders 3, 4, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20, 21, 24, 25, 28,29 and 32 all above 75. Both the others are on the high 50's or low 60's. I'm using a SC 75cm for 82.

Are 3, 4, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20, 21, 24, 25, 28,29 and 32 on N4?

Omaha Nimiq 4 Report

Now I have mounted the 76cm dish in its permanent home, here are the TP readings for 82W in Nashville.

As you will see, they are stronger than what DaveFormula is getting in NC for all transponders. We both have the same dish so this should give some help in defining the footprint.

Early today we had dense cloud cover, and I did lose TP11 for a while.

I am assuming you are in Omaha Nebraska. I find it interesting that your signals are not as strong as I would have expected especially with a 100 cm dish. You are considerably further North than I am.

I also don't know if the signal readings mean the same thing on different receivers. Do you know at what point your 6141 loses lock? On the 9242 it appears to be around 42.

Yes, it's Omaha, NE. At 9:00 P.M. most readings were 2 or 3 notches higher. Even with ultra cloudy conditions, the only transponder that I have not had full reception on is 11 with its two HD channels.

I did not know how things would work here because of the reported Minneapolis reception.

Hey I am in Raleigh, NC - what size dish do I need to get the SAT 82 channels ? One day they work the next day they don't is where I am at now - is there a way to reprogram the Box itself to lock in at less than 50 ? My signals are all in the 40's

Thanks.

What size dish are you using in Raleigh?

I am in Nashville and can pull in all the transponders on 82 with a Winegrad 76 cms dish. For me TP27 is the weakest at around 47-50 and TP32 is the strongest with a signal of around 65. I am not including Transponder 3 which has always come in at 100.

On the original small dish I could pull in approx half of the transponders.

I am also not sure why you are not getting a lock with a signal in the 40's/ I have a 9242 and it usually loses lock when the signal is around 40.

What the heck with wifes now ? A roof is a place for MANS !!!!
OK, for REAL man ! :D

If you are the man, ie maintain the roof in pristine condition, then you had full right to install anything what you want. Sure, not broking shingles or tear down-spoors. ;)

Install at least 30" dish, man.

Nimiq 4

Ok...

In northern utah, using 33x30 inch dish with 2x dpp lnb.

I cant get both satellites in with satisfactory signal and quality.
Have been able to pull in Nimiq 4 (82 w.) at about 75% with a quality of about 40 - 50%, can "see" about 90 channels of various types.

Considerations and thoughts:

I am using an unactivated receiver bacause I want to know if it is worth my time and money to activate, so obviously I'm not watching anything right now.

I am not willing to put up anything larger than this dish.
Of necessity, the cable run from dish to receiver is about 80-90 feet.

When I hook it up (to search for signal) with no disecq in the mix, I get the above stats.

When I put a disecq in I get zip.

When I put a DPP44 in the middle, I get the above specs also.

Any thoughts on how to improve this (and get both sats) don't want to activate the sub for nothing.

Is it a cable length issue? Am I just on the fringe of the new footprint and therefore S.O.L. ?

Any help would be appreciated... I have dishnet and will keep it and could be fine with that... sorry to say that even with NHL center ice, the hockey coverage is not very good. Nothing like a CBC hockey braodcast.

???????????

Trouble finding 82 nimiq 4

I'm trying to hit 82 in S.W. Florida and don't seem to be able to get it. Is there anyone out there that is getting any signal this far south? I have no problem getting 91.

No, not even with a 10 meter dish...

You will need to go at least North of Gerogia.
