The first 5th Element was made using the same master as was used for the very successful superbit DVD using the real time MPEG-2 encoder. It was as good as the master. After the outrage, they got back to the DI and used AVC (all information according to paidgeek).

The point being they did not bother to get a better master. They used one that looked good on DVD... Saying it was good enough for super bit means nothing. Superbit is still 720x480, all superbit does is use less compression on MPEG-2. What is Sony shooting for here? Looking slightly better than a DVD?
