I can't believe how much of a market there is for all the mediocre content filled with the same ads on an endless loop that populate these aggregate services of "live" ad-supported channels — really on-demand on someone else's schedule. I get the news stuff, like CBS News and ABC News. I watch those too, especially for breaking news. But some of this other junk? I know a lot of folks are hurting financially, but if I couldn't even afford $6/mo for ad-supported Hulu, I'd just borrow DVDs from my local library before resorting to the "live" channels on Pluto TV or now the Roku Channel.
Ive got LIVE OTT service with HULU, but I often times find myself watching a couple of channels on Pluto more than I do other services. Admittedly, sometimes it is just for background noise in the garage while cooking, but I have found several "channels" of interest on the service.
I haven't investigated any of these free services yet. Are they like the diginets on OTA? I do really enjoy some of those. Qwest, TBA, Heartland, Circle.
Some are. Some are "binge" channels that show series from end to end on loop. Some are just older content from mainstream providers.
Ill often turn on "Cops" on pluto and just let it play for example.

Oh gawd! Tried to watch MST3K on Shout and they have six commercials for the break. 5 were the same Aldis ad! Second set of breaks, Aldis ad start... turn off. I’ll watch a Rifftrax (owned not streamed).
Same. There used to be a channel that showed a train traveling across the country (kind of like a live stream) but I can't find it anymore.
I like Pluto tv on my Roku Ultra. Just the other day Tivo installed a Pluto Tv app on my Roamio dvr, and it does work, but it's so dog-slow I can't stand it. So, I switch to my Ultra for that. I also have a Firestick 4k stick for the Airy tv app, and that's another good app. They do have a "in testing" private channel Roku app, but it doesn't have all the channels like the Firesticks app. Different stuff than Pluto, but I like it now and again.
Looking through it again, I undersold Pluto at least. There are movie channels (think mostly 90s stuff), a ton of news channels, the binge and digi nets, some Comedy Central content, and some sci go and tech stuff. Then there are religious channels, and where I think many parents with young children will benefit, the kids section. Lots of nick jr stuff on there.
SLOW TV has the train trips. We get a slimmed down version of Pluto TV here in Canada (only 14 channels!) and it is one of them. Channel 597, which might be the same for you, or not!
I have two roku player. ! is a stick plus and 1 is a roku speaker system that has roku player built in. Also have a couple roku players that are not suported.ed . Going to junk them 2 obsolete players. I prefer the roku players as they receive a stronger signal and are not buggy like the three amazon 4k sticks I have. . If it annoys you to listen to comercials you can watch the pay stuff. and miss out on the comercials. With some of the free stuff I can watch a few comercials. That is how they make a profit. Besides you only have to watch a few seconds of the comercial and you can skip it. I wouldn,t go without having a roku player.
