Can I just split the signal coming in from the dish to hook up to the 2 tuners or do I need to run in a second cable from one the additional lnbs on the dish? And how can i check that each tuner is working?

You need two lines from the dish or multiswitch. Try recording two different channels at the same time. That will tell you if it is working correctly.

You should also be able to do a signal strength test for each input.

I also believe you meant HR20, not H20, since the H20 only has one tuner. :)

AND then...

HD = 3 LNB or 5 LNB............both have four outputs from the multiswitch in the same component housing out on the mast arm. Two of those lines run to a recorder. One is for real time and the other is for recording while watching reel stuff in real time...like the 35 minutes per hour of commercials.
