starting and ending time of programs

There you go harping again on the "15 second delay" from the Dish stream being "so large". LMAO

You do realize that the delay a technical limitation for all satellite providers in the time it takes to uplink, transcode and send a signal 40,000+ miles round trip to satellites over 20,000 miles away? It has nothing to do with the signal being "so large", whatever that means. Cable and OTA do not have this problem.

The delay caused by long distance travel up and down the sat is only a few seconds delay. However, you have to add the decode, and then recode process, and then the trip up and back, as you've stated. However, there is an additional delay to our viewing live TV on DBS: The digtial stream does not contain all the data for a single program service contiguously, but is broken up all along the stream. If one has a LOT of data, it can take a substantial amount of time for all necessary data needed to output a picture and sound (or key for allowing a STB go access the stream or other data) for that one desired "channel" you wish to watch. The steam for an OTA is not nearly as long as for DBS satellite, so OTA does not experience nearly the profound delay. Unlike OTA, DBS may have several HD channels, keys and other non picture or sound data all on ONE transponder. Sorry you feel I'm "harping," but it's clear you don't understand how a large/long digital stream, especially for DBS, can end-up delaying what we see as LIVE TV, and with the Dish DVR clock set spot on real-time with a profound delay, the sat service channels that are sending out ON TIME end up getting delayed behind the DVR's spot on clock.
