UPDATE: Well the fence that the old dish was on kinda rocks back and forth some so the installer has chosen to go with a temporary pole stand for now and will schedule someone to come and put in a permanent cemented pole. He has also chosen to replace the cable with some new stuff (see pic) that seems to be more of a weatherproof product.

Also, an actual Dish employee is doing this install and not a contractor. Which is cool because this guy is all pro so far. FYI - a 3rd party did the install that exists now.

I've gone back inside but have left my pug puppy to watch him (see pic)

If the installer has his bosses showing up, you might want to put the pug away. He'll be written up for you not securing your pet. Stupid rule considering its a puppy, but management doesn't care!!

Why the orange Coax cable in the picture. I would think they would use black so you could hide it better.

Wow, I have a boxer mix, never had him locked up before, most of the installation guys seem to enjoy having him around, no one has ever asked.

Just because the tech doesnt ask doesnt mean a manager wont enforce a policy when they show up. Just a heads up,

I was under the impression that only one hopper needed internet connectivity for internet access. Also that the HIC is only required in some very specific instances where the hopper is not in the same room as the internet access.

At least that's how it's shown in the training diagrams....

What is a HIC. Will my installer know to bring one for my 2 Hopper/ 2 Joey installation next Saturday?

The hic is the "Hopper Internet Connector" it plugs into the router with Ethernet then sends that back through coax to the hopper to fees it broadband. All techs have them.

My installer had a couple HIC's on his truck. He was thinking that it wouldn't be needed since 1 of the hoppers would be connected to the internet. I was thinking the same thing because I thought I saw some diagram on this site that had shown that. We shall see soon enough.

I believe that HIC stands for Hopper Internet Connector. According to the manager it's to be called an H.I.C and not a "hick". He was very intent on teaching the others this. Wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea.

I imagine that the HIC is needed for the 2nd Hopper because the 2 Hoppers don't see each other at the moment, so they can't share content. But can they just hook up the 2nd Hopper directly to the ethernet port on the router?
