Thinking about signing up for DirecTV?

Vcize,
Correct, the 10% does not count towards extras & premiums. For example, 10% of the Choice package would be $5 per month for 12 months. The 10% of the Plus HD DVR package would be $7 per month for 12 months, but in the Plus HD DVR package, the DVR service and HD Access are included in the base package price. So, we give 10% off the base package, and some base packages include DVR service, HD access, and/or premiums such as HBO. Let me know if you have any other quesitons.

Do I also get the $100 in bill credits and the $50 Visa card like they are currently giving to sign up on D*'s website?

Gee, and after all the hassle and run around I been getting from CS on canceling my NFL package and getting my first payment back ( first cancellation call was on 18 June) I'm planning on dumping Dtv on Saturday. They quoted me over $200 bucks to replace my current 8 year old RCA boxes with 1 Std that receives locals and 1 HDDVR with dishes ( currently I only have the old circular dual LNB). I listed the hassles in the NFL package thread so I wont repeat it hear except ot say Dtv keeps charging my account a cancellation fee that is equal to the Amount with tax they charged my credit card for the NFL package's first billing.

heisman27,
Yes, you will get the $100 in bill credits at $10 per month for 10 months and currently we are giving away the portable DVD player instead of the $50. Then on top of that, we give you the 10% off your base package, which DIRECTV does not do.

Thanks,

Any discounts or coupon codes for people who already have DirecTV?

Code for free DVR

I used it last night and upgraded to the non-HD DVR for free (including installation and shipping/delivery).

Best deal I could find on a new D* subscription was at Costco.

HR20 HD-DVR $269 - $100 instant rebate on 1st one (Net $169 on 1st HD-DVR)
H20 HD Receivers - $85 each
$50 Costco Gift Card (can be exchanged for cash at front desk or spent)
$10 off per month of programming package
Free installation
Tech Support and Warranties are by Costco, a definite plus.

Same ST promos or others that are available elsewhere as far as programming packages go. (I didn't want a portable DVD player, the $50 is more useful to me.)

Just wanted to bring these offers to attention of potential D* subscribers who want other options.

Thanks for the info. My closest Costco is about 1 1/2 hours away, and I don't see that deal online. Maybe you could tell me just a bit more about it.

How long does the $10 off of programming last?

Is Costco offering the Tech Support and Warranties as a substitute for the Direct TV Protection Plan, and if so, for how long?

Did they have any SD receivers available for purchase?

The $10 off a month lasts for 10 months for total of $100 discount.

The tech support is lifetime from Costco's tech support group. They are the same ones who do it for their TVs and all other electronics (including computers.)

The forever warranty on the hardware is still there, although they did limit their "return it at any time for a full refund" on TVs and Computers recently due to consumer abuse of the policy. If it EVER breaks, they will replace it or FULL refund, so that is a bit better than what D* offers, as far as I could see.

Costco only had pallets of the HD hardware available at the stores, but since D* doesn't charge for installation of new SD hardware, I can understand why they wouldn't carry it.

All installation is done by D* contractors and the monthly billing is done by D*, as you would think.

If I were you, I would call the closest Costco and make sure they have the hardware in stock that you want before I drove there. When you call, ask for the cellphone kiosk and the main operator will transfer you. The people who deal with the cell phones are the same ones that work with the D* hardware / contracts. The ones I talked with had just spent a week in classes being trained about D*, so they were more knowledgeable than the CSRs that I have spoken with in the past that worked for D*. :)

BTW, when I go to costco.com and select my local store, it still does NOT show anything about D* on the website, although the store has had plenty for months and looks like they are making sure they don't run out of them. I would guess that D* has decided Costco customers are a demographic they wish to reach as their stores are more upscale than Sam's are, at least in this area and all the other locations I have ever been in. That would explain the alliance between Costco and D*, to me.

Good Luck!

Thanks, Mike, for answering my questions so well. I also appreciate the tip to ask for the cellphone kiosk in the store. I definitely will be calling them prior to making that long a trip. We had lived for many years in Southern Cal, were charter members of the original Price Club in San Diego, and were accustomed to being surrounded by multiple warehouse stores.

Since retiring to North Carolina a few years ago, we have been adjusting to buying many things on the internet, and travelling long distances for Costco's, ets. On the other hand, we can now enjoy quiet country drives and a wonderful environment, so we aren't going back.

directv since 1995: I think if I ran a satellite company I think my older customers would be just as importent to me as a new one would be.

Old Customer, got some free stuff - 1999

Hi all:

I get NFL Sunday ticket and have since I started the service. Over the last couple of years I call and complain about the Superfan and the ever rising cost and tell them I want it free...So far I am batting 1.000 and have gotten it free. This year I also asked about being a long standing customer and what can the offer me.

I got the following just for asking. A new DirecTV DVR and a new 5 LNB Slimline dish installed all at no cost. I never bothered to get the Movie Channels, so the above was fine with me as I did not press them for anything else.

Like all companies, existing customers who don't complain are considered to be satisfied customers. So, unless they threaten to leave, they don't usually get incentives to stick around.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Call DirecTV and say the word CANCEL at the voice prompts, to connect to a retention specialist that can give you better deals, but only if you ask for them.

very true I called D* on sept 6th and said that I was upset because of the existing customers never getting the deals the way that new customers do. I stated that I never had sunday nfl ticket and would like to try it. The lady on the phone said that is fine we can go ahead and give you the package with all the movie channels and sports. I said great then she came back on the phone after putting me on hold and said the computer will not let me do it you have been a customer to long basically, so I said let me talk to a supervisor this is pretty bad. Long story short I have all the movie stations, NFL sunday ticket and the super fan for a total of 130.00 a month with tax and with that is with 9.99 hd access and 4.99 for extra receiver and 5.99 dvr service in there as well. sweeeettt deal )

Where to buy?

I left D* in June after 10 years. I called today about coming back but the best they could do is $199 for an HD DVR. I guess I could eat that but the said I would either get an HR20-100, HR20-700, or an HR 21.

I am not much for buying grab bags. Is there a seller where I can at least pick my box? I can enroll as a new subscriber as they have lost track of me.

Best Buy and Circuit City come to mind. And the forum sponsors at the top of the page. ;)

I'm coming back. Yeah!

Finally cut a deal that I can live with. $99 for an HR20 and free HD for a year. Not the best deal I've heard of, but I can live with it. Better than not living without my honey who went through another AT&T Homezone reboot while watching last night followed by the remote going psycho.

Late season Sunday Ticket includes 2008 maybe?

Did a search but could not find any reference to the following:

In the past (maybe 1-2 years) I could have sworn that D* ran a promo for new customers towards the end of the NFL season that gave them the last few ST games in the current year, as well as all of the following season if they signed up.

Has such a promo ever existed? Thoughts on such a late season offering for 2007/2008?

Thanks,

-Z
