'Storm Chasers' stars Tim Samaras and Carl Young killed in Oklahoma tornado

http://blog.zap2it.com/pop2it/2013/...nd-carl-young-killed-in-oklahoma-tornado.html

Tim Samaras and Carl Young, two well-known tornado researchers and former stars of the Discovery Channel show "Storm Chasers," were killed Friday (May 31) while following a tornado in Oklahoma.

Paul Samaras, Tim's 24-year-old son, was also among the 11 people killed in the twister and subsequent flash floods that struck El Reno, Okla., on Friday.

After reviewing data the NWS has upgraded the El Reno tornado last week to EF5 with wind speeds recorded at 295mph. It was 2.6 miles wide (the largest ever recorded in history) on a path 16.2 miles long.
Our paper related it this way: the size of the EF5 tornado's destructive path is longer and wider than the island of Manhattan (13.4 miles long, 2.3 miles wide.)
