So, I can see that some of the TPs have good quality, but they don't show up as channels. I can't believe that they're scrambled, since they show up as horizontal or vertical, and I unchecked "scrambled" in the search.

Am I missing something here - a magic box to check in the double secret hidden sub-menu or something?

DrBoyd,

Just one possibility here is that you "locked" onto a data TP. You will get a really strong signal indication, but you won't log in a channel. Probably a Hughes Network Signal (there are many satellites that carry Hughes) but, it could be any number of other data feeds as well.
