If you have 'Perfect Trax' enabled, you will not be able to record an incomplete track, meaning that if something is already playing, it will wait for the next track/name/title change before it will record - this insures you get a complete track.
You can turn this off in the options some where.
Also, sometimes, you cannot hit record while the channel list records OR while artist/song data is missing or getting populated.
