My Hard drive has been making a lot of noise lately and last night I got the heat message telling me I cannot watch, 152 degrees. Is it safe to assume that the two are connected and to just get the unit replaced? Nothing else has changed in my setup, so to assume bad ventilation does not seem possible.

Also, with this, I assume it means I will lose all of my recordings right?

Thanks

yes your recordings will be lost unless you somehow can let it cool down and transfer your recordings to a external hard drive......:(

I got a laptop cooling pad at Stables and placed it under my 722. My temps are down to 120/98 high/low and avg 111.

If you unplug the receiver for an hour or more, it might boot up and you might be able to dl your recordings to an ehd. I did that one time when I got the over heating message. Was able to get everything off and write down my timers.

Take digital pictures of your timers; quick and easy.

Now to go check my temps.

I have two ViP722s. Both have laptop coolers blowing "the wrong way" and are open on all sides for free air flow. The main one has a high of 120, low of 98 and avg of 109. The one in the bedroom has a high of 127, low of 107 and avg of 114.

I would power the receiver completely down (press the dvr power button to put the receiver to "sleep", and then unplug it), and let it cool while you are going to be out, and not watching. When you return, plug the receiver back in, and allow it to reboot. This should allow for the receiver to reset the guide, etc. You can attach a USB external drive up to 2TB capacity to the USB port of the 722, and then copy your recordings to the external drive to save them.

If overheating is a persistent problem, it may be necessary to replace the DVR for you. With your VIP 722k receiver you can connect the external drive at no additional charge, to save your recordings. If you replace the receiver, be sure to contact us prior to deactivating the old receiver so you don't lose the recordings you have stored on the external drive. We will need to leave both receivers active for a bit, while the new receiver and the external drive are connected to make all of this work smoothly.

If you notice the receiver is remaining at normal temperatures, it might need dust blown out, or may need to be shielded from exposure to direct sunlight.

Thanks,

Lou F.

When replacing a dvr, you never have to deactivate the old one. As part of the activation of the process, you transfer the new receivers id and smart card numbers to your account and that removes the old one.
Another thing, do not attach the ehd to your new receiver until after it has been fully activated in full operation.
