VOOM Goes BOOM - update Dish Drops all 15 VOOM Channels

I wasn't complaining.

I was merely stating that after 6 months, I was reflecting back upon VOOM and missed having those channels.

I certainly haven't done that before in this thread, as this is the first time I could have been without them for 6 months.

Why are some so quick to put a negative slant on things?

Im not sure why dislike for Voom runs so deep? It still stuns me how we as an
electronic community dont stick together on this one issue..''More HD is better''

Choice is better. No matter if its the fishing HD channel or Gol tv. I want all of us to have the stations we want.

I was also visiting relatives on Long Island. Voom was great. I really miss them. Is it wrong to say you miss something that was taken away? Heck No!

I caught Fiddler on the Room and Joy luck club on Voom movies.
Quality is just top notch.

Still nothing to replace those stations on Dish or Direc.

I for one miss Voom! Nor am I ashamed to say it!

As to the topic of D* adding VOOM, I made no statement of expectations on this. I would like to see them add some of the VOOM channels. They could replace some of their excessive number of HD PPV channels on a 1:1 basis and eat up little to none of their precious 19 remaining HD slots.

Besides, what good is having slots for 19 extra HD channels when you aren't using any of them? They had over 40 slots back in August. Then they added something like 5 new national HD channels and 17 or so HD PPV channels. Personally, I'd much have rather seen them cut a deal for say 6-8 VOOM channels. But didn't expect them to do so.

I think HD bandwidth would have to be very plentiful to see anyone offering VOOM again. The ratings are too low.

As for D*, they are pretty much using their extra HD capacity to carry revenue-generating content, such as premium sports packages and HD PPV.

Some people love to hate.

Hating Voom and Voom fans is very populare here.

It's sad. People who bump this thread are almost always Voom fans sharing/chating with other Voom fans about how much they miss Voom. Then someone has to take that as a que to be nasty and rude. They are just crapping on things that bring joy to others like any school yard bully.

This is the only thread where I ignore user members. If all a user can do is trach voom and voom fans here, I then know that I don't really care what they think about anything else.

As to reviving the old thread. As I rarely visit this forum anymore, I searched to see if it had had any activity in the last month. I found that there were 33 posts to it in November. That isn't old and dead. So I went ahead and posted to it.

Not to bash Dish, but if AT&T UVerse would add the Voom channels, then I would switch. Might even switch to Direct if they had them. My point is that the services all offer nearly the same HD channels - and if someone offers more I might switch. Been having problems with my 622, and it would be a good time, but AT&T can't get its offer attractive enough yet...

I don't hate Voom. I liked a few channels, and was a sub to the last. I wouldn't mind seeing Equator make a comeback. I just like the other options Dish has bought me since better. No one has unlimited bandwidth, so majority rules. The other problem with choice is the fact Voom didn't want us to have a choice. If they were to come back, they should be their own tier, so people can chose not to subscribe to them.

As for it being the first time it has been 6 months, so are you going to post every day now that you miss Voom? Tomorrow will be the first time it has been 6 months and one day. I doubt 10 years will change your opinion, so it's no different.

And why hasn't this thread been locked with a new one started in the general forum? Voom is no longer a Dish-related topic, save lawsuit news, of which there is none yet.

Perhaps I should start an I miss Tech TV thread. It has just as good a chance of coming back.

I still haven't found replacement channels for Voom, and miss it as much today as I did in May, when it was removed. And for those complaining about 'reviving an old thread', this is the thread within we fanboys agreed to post Voom discussions.

So aren't too willing to admit you were wrong about both my post being a complaint, and that I had posted the same thing before, eh?

The logic above is downright silly. I haven't been posting to this thread at all for months, so of course I'm not going to do what you stated. I did state about 4 months ago that I missed being able to watch VOOM. I didn't know this was such a sensitive topic, here in this thread which is all about VOOM.

I could have posted "I MISS VOOM" in the "HD" thread that was started, once again, by someone who wasn't satisfied with all the previous "WHERE IS NEW HD" threads that keep popping up.

Instead, I choose to post it here. "I MISS VOOM" just as much now as when it was first gone. So there!

One thread where the folks that miss Voom, myself included, want to commiserate and express their sorrow, and for some reason people see fit to come in and beat them up over it. I do not understand that. Just picture us as a bunch of old men rehashing the "good ol' days" and how we pine for them again.

If someone says "Hey I miss Voom and want it back" in the Voom Goes Boom thread, how is it that it hurts you to teh extent you go and bash them? It is a real jerk thing to do. Are you worried VOOM will get added back and displace something really lame like BravoHD or WFNHD?

If you do not care about Voom? That is fine, but why bash those that do? If nothing else, I hope someone from E*will come on here and see the million+ plus posts of folks upset with their decision to drop the VOOM Channel Suite. (yes, I know that is very unlikely)

Fine. As I suggested, start the topic in the general TV forum. However, Voom is no longer a Dish topic. It's gone from Dish and not coming back.

Plus, it's not like anyone here is posting anything new. There is no news, hence nothing constructive to discuss.

Great Post! This is the thread to comiserate about Voom.
No harm no foul.

Who are we hurting?

Yes, nothing new to report other than ''we'' as a group still miss valuable programming taken away from us.

Here is something new...I hear the guy at dish who makes the programming call,
Makes the contarct negiations ''might'' be leaving dish.

Could be good news? who knows.

But Voom looked darn good this past weekend on Long Islands Cablevision.
They had other gems like AmcHD and Ifc HD.

Too bad we down here in South Florida dont get Ny owned Cablevision. It was stellar!!!

I too miss the VOOM channels...as I do the 622 HD DVR, but I absolutely love all 100+ outstanding high-quality HD channels on FiOS TV. FiOS is the only service provider where I am not constantly switching to an OTA source because the network broadcast HD looks faded and soft. Unfortunately, I don't see Verizon getting any of the VOOM channels anytime soon due to the fact "Entertainment Studios Launching Six HD Channels On FiOS" in the near future. Although some of the channels are VOOM-like, they are pale in comparison to Monsters, Equator, WorldSport, Cinemawhatever, etc.

If there is a Santa Claus, I will be watching full-bitrate VOOM on FiOSTV using my made by EchoStar 722C (digital cable ready) HD DVR this Christmas.:)

Hey, didn't some knucklehead at AVSForum say that some of the VOOM channels would be on U-Verse by the end of the year. Personally, I don't think anyone outside of Cablevision will see VOOM until they battle it out in court with E* next year..but who knows.

i agree! it's better posting your thoughts in an old thread instead of opening a new one over and over about the same thing. no one is obligated to read a specific thread. if you don't like the topic just move on and let the rest express themselves the way they want. personally i don't have much to say about voom except that i did like it and i did put it out of my mind along time ago. i still respect what others have to say on the subject. if i don't like it i don't have to read it and i certainly don't have the need to bash others for how they feel on a certain topic.

+1 on the 622. The D* HR21 is okay, but definitely a notch below the 622.

The D* PQ is also better than what I had from E* in May/June. I had a chance to directly compare multiple channels for a few days. Not a huge difference, but enough of one for me to see and appreciate.

But not as good as the few VOOM channels that were getting high bandwidth and full HD resolution back in the early days of when E* was carrying it. Those were wonderful.

I miss my MonstersHD. I still get emails from them with schedule updates.

Since the loss of Voom I've dropped my premium channels as much as possible. I just can't justify the $100 a month anymore.

People thought Voom played the same programming too often. You should see what HBO plays every month.

And just for sheets and giggles, here's my highlights from the MonstersHD schedule for the month of December.

Texas Chain Saw Massacre (Original)
Theatre of Blood (Vincent Price)
Night of the Comet
Lord of Illusions
The Raven (Vincent Price)
Night of the Demons
Invaders from Mars
The Video Dead
John Carpenter Documentary
The Incredible Melting Man
Scarecrows
Monster Squad
The Last Man on Earth
Jeepers Creepers
Black Sabbath
Troll 2

Sure I've seen some of these before. But I'm lucky to find 2 shows on HBO that I want to see.
