[VOOM] I cancelled it...

I cancelled Voom a couple weeks ago to switch to Directv. I didn't
really want to switch, but various reasons just brought me that point.
So here's my exit review.

Voom definitely has better quality on all channels. The original HD
channels I loved but often times found repetitive. The SD channels by
far look better out the box when compared to directv on my big screen
(I'm currently using the RCA hdtv directv tuner, it's not as good but
not by far). Of course there's no difference in quality when comparing
the two on my smaller non-hdtv.

The problem is that there was a lack of some channels that I really
needed (mainly fox sports everything) and some my wife really wanted
(such as HGTV). At the start they were adding channels really fast
than all of a sudden it just plateaued. If I had a little more
patience, I would probably still be with Voom today, but I really
needed NBA basketball.

Some things never made sense to me, such as why there were SD channels
for some of the HD channels (such as HBO WEST HD and HBO WEST). Is the
SD version really necessary? Also, why wasn't there a format mode on
the remote (pillar box, full, and zoom)? It would have made viewing on
the regular TV a lot more pleasant. Also, downloading the programming
guide was a pain. Also, why did we get fox sports florida and not any
other region? Fox sports west and FSW2 is really all I wanted. I
didn't mind the regional black out on the FSFL since I live in Los
Angeles, but it didn't make sense when I got directv and got ALL the
fox sports channels.

But all these faults were not enough to make me leave Voom. The straw
that broke the camels back was actually the price increase. I use to
have the Va Va Voom package with Playboy HD and two receivers for
about $108 a month. Over time I realized that all these movie channels
(HBO, MAX, SHO, STARZ) were a waste. So I decided to downgrade Va Va
Voom to the basic package and found I was saving only a couple dollars
due to the price increases!

Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind price increases. And even with
this increase the price was still reasonable. It's just that in this
case the change was so drastic and Voom had nothing to show for it.
They were no additional channels added, not even future channels that
would be coming soon. I also gave up on when the DVR was coming out.
Actual number of subscribers is probably lower than projected and
required to sustain the company, so why the price increase?

To me when some things don't make sense I don't try to figure them
out. I just jump ship and find one that makes sense. In any case sorry
for leaving Voom, I really enjoyed and admired the service. I'll check
back in a year when my contract is up.

Escsco, many here feel your pain and completely understand your reasoning
for leaving. It seems like things at Voom are in limbo right now. Are they
going to release the home network solution, are they going to be bought out
by echostar, are they going to add any more channels? Inquisitive minds want
to know. The question is when will we know the answers to these questions?
