[VOOM] New Guy considering VOOM

D

Doug Thomas

Guest
I have had Directv in the past and since a recent move, I am using
COmcast Cable. Is VOOM a reliable replacement for DirectTV. I have a
Sony 34in WEGA HD ready TV. Can you help with recommendations. What
package would you recommend.

By the way, I have to keep the cable for the Wife. :-(

Thansk in Advance

Voom offers nearly 40 channels of great High Definition Television. StarzHD and CinemaxHD are some channels you wont find from Dish or Directv.

They also offer faulty equipment with spotty reception, crappy customer service with lots of billing errors, and no DVR.

Hope this helps :)

I have the same Sony HDTV as you. VOOM HD comes through beautifully on that set!

If you want HD -- LOTS of HD -- get VOOM! :up

If you want to make better use of your HDTV -- get VOOM! :up

If HD is not that important, settle for another provider. :D

Of course the whiners are always the first to chime in.

Fact: Voom has had billing problems with "some' customers. Me? None.
Thousands upon thousands of other customers? None
Fact: Voom went silent for almost three months and let rumors spread out of
control and a bunch of naysayers had Voom 6 feet under.
Fact: Didn't happen and now Voom is going to have around 70 HD channels by
3/05 + 400 SD channels by EOY '05
Fact: Voom has delayed release of their DVR but when it is released it will
be the best on the market, period.
Fact: Voom is the BEST satellite provider if you own an HDtv. While it's in
it's infancy, it's still better than DTV/Dish/Cable
Fact: Voom's top people and customer service are part of this yahoo group
and constantly offer assistance to customers.

Hope my .02 helps you...

Robert

Gill, you have a 96" screen? What is the make and model? I'd love to
checkout the specs on that baby!

Considering VOOM. Good choice. We have Comcast as it is part of our
high speed internet service but rarely watch it as we can always find
something on VOOM most of the time in HD.

Why do you have to keep Comcast for your wife? VOOM recently added
HGTV and should be adding the Food Network this week. These along
with the rest of the programming keeps us occupied.

Problems? Sure as any new cutting edge service has. If you want to
see my rants just search under "Seattlesatelliter" on Yahoo/VOOM or
"SeattleVoomer1" on satguys. However, all of our problems have been
resolved by the professional staff at VOOM when the CSRs are not up to
the task.

Just recently we inquired about replacement of our 18" antenna with a
24". Rob from Installs, Inc. is coming Wednesday morn. And I have it
from one of those who care in the front office that it will be done.
Don't doubt them for a minute.

Sign up for VOOM and enjoy. Should mention that most of the time we
are very happy with the PQ on our 96" screen and my partner is a
videophile. I'm the audiophile.

Yes, watching HDTV as I'm typing this under rainy Seattle skies, Gill

I agree, I am an early VOOM subsciber and I love it.
It is well worth the very few minor problems I have
had. For those that want to settle for sd TV with a
few HD programs, dish or direct tv is for them. If you
love HDTV this is the only show in town worth having.

Comcast vs Voom

Comcast Cable works 99 % of the time, offers much less HD stations
costs more and their service is close to 98% perfect.

Vooms service is about 10% , Installs Inc is rated among the worst
...and they are very protective of that rating.

Voom's 18" dish works well in dry desert areas with little to no rain
Voom's 24" if your lucky enough to get it installed works a little better
Voom's eliptical dish which is not out as of yet may accualy work most of the time ? that is if you can get when it comes out :p

My new 24" inch dish took 3 or 4 service called to get it installed and it still is useless in the moderate rain conditoins.

Vooms realiablity is much less than comcast ever was at it's worst
Vooms technical help , while freindly ,is not near technically sound as Comcast cable.

If you want the most HD stations that when everything works , it works very well ... and you don't mind being a paying bata tester for a few years till Voom perfects is problems , your a perfect Voom customer.

As much I find fault with Voom most of the time, I 'm still keeping it
till HD and all of it's related interfaces gets perfected in about 3 to 5 years

We have an 18" dish in rainy Oregon and it works fine - I've only had a problem once when it was really heavy rain and it was back working fine a couple of minutes later

My friends have cable and it's gone out atleast 4 times in the past 6
months.

Installs inc is only used for some people. My installer was not installs inc
and I had a flawless install that took < 2 hours start to finish

Again, I repeat what I said in my prior post, I have an 18" dish and do NOT
live in a dry desert. I live an hour+ south of downtown Houston where it
rains VERY OFTEN and other than when it comes down in cats&dogs (ie
extremely heavy), I very rarely lose my satellite feed. Your statement that
you have to live in a dry desert to be able to use an 18" dish is .. well
full of holes.
Just because it doesn't work for you, where you live, doesn't mean it
doesn't work for thousands upon thousands of other people.
Don't be an ass, just accept the fact it doesn't work FOR YOU and stop
trying to say it doesn't work for everyone else.

Why bother with Voom installing a 24" dish? Go buy your own 24" or 36" dish
off the internet for < $100 and be done with your whining.

Again, your statement that Voom's reliability is crap is Y O U R experience.
Thousands upon thousands of Voom's customers are very happy with Voom's
reliability. Get over yourself!

If you want to give constructive ideas and thoughts about Voom's service, it
is welcome. Flame throwing, lying and talking about things you know nothing
about do no-one any good here.

Robert.

Agreed. I had issues with billing, and continue to have issues with their
policy on delays with technology and secrecy; however, I rarely had signal
problems.
