WHAT MODE SHOULD I SET FOR MY 2ND TV WHICH IS SD 4x3? SHOULD IT BE
IN 480? OR NATIVE?

If Native doesn't work, then go for 480, which ever your set is.
Interlace or Progressive. Basically, it's where you get the best
picture.

I reiterate it does not matter as the box ONLY ouputs 480i vis the SD outputs (S-video, composite, coaxial)

That's correct. Unless your SD TV has component inputs, in which case you should set the mode to 480i or 480p, whatever your TV set supports. The resolution mode selection only affects component and DVI outputs. S-video, composite and coax outputs are always 480i.

Edit: I meant to say inputs: TV has inputs not outputs! ;)

Yes it does - the signal is the same coming out (obviously) but the
picture info gets formatted differently depending on the setting. It
depends somewhat on your taste (e.g squish or zoom). I'm using 480P
Basically, pick a mode then look at the guide, an HD channel, an SD
channel, and a local to see if you like how everything fits on the
screen. Generally, the box seems to get things right. The only problem
I've seen is that sometimes locals send an SD picture formatted for HD
with the black bars, so you get a squished picture with black bars on
your SD TV. All the HD channels are squished onto 4:3, but you get used
to it, and I figure that if I record anything (on VHS) I can stretch it
out on the TV using display mode.

true about the recording, I have my main box set up to my HDTV, using component, but then i am using the svideo out to go to a DVR. I have the VOOM box set to shrink the wide to narrow, and then when i play back from the DVR to the TV, the tv zooms it back out, restoring the full picture and aspect ratio.. just wish it kept the resolution!
