[VOOM] VOOM Service

New to the group and I am tinkinig about getting the VOOM for the HDTV
channels. But after googled it on the internet, there seemed a lot of
complains and unhappy experience with VOOM Service as well as some
positive comment. The question is: is it getting better? I think I
should at least give the young company a change.

Thx

Hi. Welcome to our little group :) As it's been said here before, uphappy
customers are the ones who post the most and loudest. Happy customers rarely
visit groups like this and/or contribute positve feedback. While there are
obviously people who have install problems or service problems, there are
many more who are very happy. I am one of them. I recently vacationed in
South Florida, visiting my parents, and they have the exact same HDTV as I
so I of course I was pushing it really hard. I took him to a Brandsmart
store and showed him what he's missing. He signed up the next day. Well his
install was yesterday and he is very, very happy. The installer called ahead
of time, showed up on time, was very polite and professional and did an
outstanding job. .. and he has < 3 > receivers!! He does not belong to this
group by I hope to get him to join this too so he can give his own account.
But my point is people are getting VOOM installed every day and have
successful installs.

VOOM is young and has growing pains to get thru but if you keep that in mind
and would love to have 35+ HD channels, VOOM is the service for you.

My last thing I'd like to relay is that there are those at VOOM who care
very much about the company, it's service and it's customers. A few of them
are on this group and assist people who have issues.

Hope this helps you make your decision...

[VOOM] Re: VOOM Service

Good. I'd rather stay on the positive side as well. Hopefully you
folks don't mind I ask a few questions to get to the next level of
details.

For local channel dish, how big is it? From some previous posts, it
looks like that it is 24 inches in diameter and on sits on an
electronic rotor. Isn't it too big to put on your roof? And if it is
on the roof, how do I turn it to the right direction to pick up
certain location channels? According to AntennaWeb, I can not fix the
local dish at one direction to get all the local channels. It has to
be adjusted based which channel I want to watch. The AntennaWeb also
indicats that I only need a medium size antenna.

What is size for the HDTV dish? What are the option in term of the
position of the dish do I have?

Thx

Ignore the whiners and give it a try - there are many happy VOOM
customers, including myself. You can always cancel - something the
complainers would rather not do, in favor of nursing a martyr
complex.

I agree, I've been hapily VOOMING since 11/06/03. Things are much
better than a few months ago. I still use Cablevison for channels
VOOM still doesn't have, but if I only had VOOM I'd still be happy.
People complain the movies on Cinema10 are old and lousy etc... I
love those old movies and we have HBO, SHO etc. for new stuff anyway.

I chose Voom as an enhancement, a complement to my existing service,
an addition to my HDTV lineup, I was
getting only 5 or 6 HD Channels from TWCNYC, but I was happy with the
rest of the programming, I wanted more HD Channels so I got Voom, I
got it for the HD, if I want my locals I switch over to TWCNYC,
simple as that, if I want to see a channel that Voom doesn't carry,
there it is at the push of a button or two.

Don't fool yourselves the HD experience is not a cheap one (we all
know that) and thinking that there is single magic source out there
that will please everyone is ludicrous and insane, you must pick and
choose what you like, and if it's more than one carrier so be it, it
will cost you money, but there is no magic bullet..

Right now I wish I could get HDNet, but neither TWCNYC nor Voom carry
it at this moment, I will not sign a contract with DTV just to get
that channel nor will I pay for equipment that will become obsolete
down the road, The Dish Network offers it with no contracts, but I
don't want another dish on my roof, so should I bitch and cry because
I can't get that channel, no, it's just TV fellowes, let's get over
it. I love the tube as much or even more than most of us here, but
let's get a grip.

My installation was a pleasure, I got a confirmation email from
Installs Inc, called them to confirm, the guy came ontime intalled
everything and left, and I love watching the premium channels in HD,
I only get CBS, FOX & ABC, so what...that's why I still have TWCNYC.

[VOOM] Re: VOOM Service

I've had VOOM for a month, install went smooth I get all but one OTA
channel. The VOOM exclusives in my mind are great, RAVE is way to
repetitive in my mind... How can they have so few music videos to
show. Am I just catching the video rotation at the same point or is
it really that bad... My fav exclusives are Monsters and Equator.
Worldsport leaves alot to be desired in my opinion, I like soccer but
dont love it... It would be cool to see some more offbeat events as
well. I guess it's easy for me to sit here and say that though.
Anyway give it a try there is no contract or upfont costs to worry
about.

[VOOM] Re: VOOM Service

I've had VOOM from its inception, and it has been a pleasure. If
you love HD, you love VOOM. No other company can give you more HD
programming. Like Berockin1, I also still have regular Cablevision
for other channels, but VOOM is simply the best for HD. I would not
go by all the naysayers. You have to remember the nature of these
forums are that the people that are unhappy with something will
write in much, much faster and more often than the people that are
enjoying a problem free service.

I would highly recommend VOOM. You will not be sorry.

RE: [VOOM] VOOM numbers

Just consider it an infant. It hasn't even been a year yet. Also while
DTV/Dish have 10+ million subscribers, I don't think that many people have
HD tv's so their numbers are going to be lower.

Does anyone have an idea how many subscribers VOOM currently has ?
I was trying to see the overall health of the company minus the

[VOOM] Re: VOOM Service

It is without a doubt more stable than ever with the new software
6.0. The VOOM original movie channels and monsters are good however,
there RAVE is just a rip of the PBS Soundstage series. I was hoping
this channel was going to be different and offer more of a variety
of "complete" concerts. Rush is very repetitive. Voom also needs to
add more intellectual programming such as National Geographic,
Discovery Times (A MUST), Discovery Wings and the Science Channel.
More programming for kids, i.e. Nick GAS, Nick Toons. Also I was
really hoping for SCI-FI and TechTV, but after the merger I really
don't care too much for G4TechTV, so SCI-FI would be just fine.
Also, VOOM needs to add RSN's and the OUTDOOR channel. Inhd1 & 2,
HDnet and they will be hands-down the best choice is satellite tv.
That being said, VOOM is the best value for the money and offers the
most HD anywhere, so if you have an HDTV there is no real other
choice.

[VOOM] Re: VOOM Service

I agree 100%. I just watched Moby Dick which was awesome, FX is
great, I have gotten into to westerns so the Cinema 10's are good. I
don't like the WorldCinema because of the closed caption and
DivineHD shows some good stuff as well. I just wish they would add
more variety to Rush, Rave and Animania and they would make a lot of
people much happier.

[VOOM] Re: Voom service

My receiver box failed 4 weeks ago and I called for help. They could
not fix the problem so I asked for a replacement unit shipped
directly to me. They told me that they couldn't do that. They
arranged to send someone over to my house. That person never show up.
I called again today and now I am being told to wait for another 10
days.
I bought the original box for about $700, it is useless if I cancel
the subscription now. I understand there is no market for used Voom
receivers.
Voom is great when the equipment works, but if you ever need service
be prepared to wait for weeks or months

The moto is basically a POS. My hughes e86 runs circles around it in PQ, HD 4:3 OTA stretching, software that works etc. The new D* HD reciever probably puts it even further to shame. I feel sorry for users that purchased a voom moto.

The voom exclusives are too repetitive and have little compelling content. You will see nothing like Hotlines or bikini destinations, NHL, MLS, NBA, or college sports, or boxing on voom. You may see some motopig and spanish soccer reruns or young third world boys playing red rover or foot volleyball though. All in glorious 12 mbps avg HD and low power to aid in rain fade. chuckle. And if your on the west coast its a special treat aiming the dish to catch the power starved, directionally challenged signal.

you decide. Id rent it, sure give it a go and decide for yourself. but DO NOT BUY the garbage moto

repetative and the "young third world boys playing red
rover" lol. But as for PQ I can say it blows away D*,
in SD anyway. As for the HD Ive never had another
service to compare it to, but I am satisfied. The big
draw for me was the
no money up front deal, couldnt afford the 3-500.00
for HD STB.

NOT so. I had an E86, and would take the Voom STB over it any day.
The E86 video was washed out and very dim. The Voom box works fine
with the exception of the few remaining minor bugs. The E86 was
exceptionally good at one thing though - frying eggs.

RE: [VOOM] Re: VOOM Service

I have an open service call to resolve reception of my local abc channel but
wanted to pass on to you all that I just had a pretty severe storm here and
I lost voom for about a few seconds a couple times but other than that, had
no problems. Time Warner Cable has a radio ad out that claims satellite
service goes out with dark clouds!! Maybe Directv or Dish do, but not VOOM!!

Thought I'd pass it on..

Loving VOOM in Kemah, TX...

[VOOM] VOOM comment, and a question

Well I don't know about Texas... but I know here in S.E. Georgia, the day
my VOOM was installed,
we had our 'daily' rain storm here, and my VOOM was out completely. Was
rather surprising to me,
since my DISH hardly ever goes out in these storms we have. VOOM was out
for about 30 minutes,
while DISH was still playing away.

Now to my question... on the VOOM Motorola stb, was does the red button,
under the cover, on the
front right hand side do? I seen the installer pressing it a few times,
but I dont see in the manual,
what this button actually does?

thanks to all.
Pete
