Dish Network's new website has an official Bugs area, and an official method for reporting bugs.
I'm quite willing to let them keep track of the reported bugs, so I'll probably close this page.

Dish Network Receiver Software Versions

How to decode Echostar receiver serial numbers

Dishplayers have become quite a bit less buggy with receiver software version v112. If your Dishplayer hasn't received this upgrade, turn it off from the remote, and let it sit overnight. Examination of the receiver info screen under Settings->diagnostics will show you if your Dishplayer took the upgrade. Reported fixed are most if not all of the Switch error bugs, and it seems that a number of lesser bugs have been made less frequent. Many Dishplayer owners are still reporting a popping on the left channel. Echostar recently upgraded the product status to "stable", although we're not quite sure what that means, it seems evident that Echostar has removed it from the critical list.

Recent reports indicate that the annoying "getting information" bug has been tracked down, and eliminated in a new WebTV client release still under test.

Most other Echostar receivers are relatively stable as of July 2000. More blackouts have been reported especially from 4000 owners using SW V6.75, many have reported incidents are reduced by resetting the receiver by unplugging it for several minutes.

9/24/00 PQ problems on x700 and x800 receivers
Recent changes in some compression systems at Echostar have caused a few more blackouts recently, sometimes on receivers which had never before exhibited this particular bug. This is a transient issue, and Echostar recently replied with the following statement.

"The effect many posters here are seeing is a side effect of some recent improvements EchoStar has made to our compression gear in an effort to enhance picture quality and performance. While the problem is visible on certain models of our receivers, the cause has been isolated to a bug in the compression techniques used at our uplink facility. The receivers exhibiting the symptoms are NOT at fault. We are currently testing the fix for the bug and expect to have it resolved within a week.
As we incorporate this fix into our compression equipment, these effects should be eliminated. Mike Dugan and the EchoStar team have given this corrective action the highest priority and wish to assure you all that we are working hard to eliminate the cause. We will notify the forum administrators when the fix is implemented. We appreciate your feedback and welcome your detailed email comments (i.e. channel number, time of problem, receiver model, problem description) at dishquality@echostar.com. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience."

The new 4900 has been reported to exhibit a few bugs related to channel selection, but the product has been fairly stable.
