I've had my 211 for about a year using component as the former tv did not have HDMI, but now have a new TV with HDMI. I can not get a signal on HDMI, and a search of the forum indicated problems in the past. Before I call, any insight if this is still a current problem with the 211 or is there something else I can try to get this working properly? Can I expect a replacement unit after this amount of time? Thanks for your help.

I too been having the same problem with you. If I change my HD aspect ration to any thing higher than 480p. Problem is with 720p and 1080i. I would get snowy picture for 10 secs and it would black out with no picture display at all. Dishnetwork is no good. They are F ing sucks. Specially with VIP 211. I tried all guys of HDMI cables (short and long with different brands). Dish tech came out twice and they are clueless. They don't know about this problem. I got billed for $29.99 for house call service which nothing was fixed. Yes, Dish do offer the most HD channels. But, always issue with HDMI and they do want to acknowledge that they are having problem with vip 211 and software which the rolled out like every two weeks. Nothing fixed the HDMI problem yet. Looks to me they are ignoring this problem. I am done with Dish. I'm having TimeWarner in my area to get me a new service. I will not be much happy the choice I have with Dish, but I am going to get better picture resolution to the highest my TV can pickup (1080i).
Good luck to you with Dish. Maybe you email and phone them their fix the problem this time. More voice with problem complains, hopefully they'll be waking up.

Your doing a lot of fussing about HDMI when using component is as good if not better. I can tell you are not going to beleive that, so have fun with cable!!

I don't have any problem with my 211's HDMI interface but I am getting tired of it dropping the OTA for no reason ever since the L431 software was installed.

I don't know what cause this HDMI blank out. It works perfertly fine with my Toshiba HD DVD and SD DVD. It's VIP211 with L433. Might be sometime relates to HDCP compliance.

The "HDMI problem" just occurred on my VIP-211 (I've had it about a year also). This is the second one I've had with that problem...and yes, I swapped in a different HDMI cable just to make sure it wasn't the cable.

The second tech I talked to was very responsive and after telling him I eliminated the cable as a possibility, DISH is sending another VIP-211 out immediately.

I guess they still haven't cured this problem!

I am also having an HDMI problem with my Vip211. I just got a brand new Samsung LCD TV and can use component fine, but would like to use HDMI, but it won't display. When I use component and do the HDMI test it shows that "RxKsv key is invalid" and HDCP is at NO. I have a feeling something with this box is not passing the HDCP to my TV. I tested my HDMI ports on my LCD TV and they worked fine with my Upconverting DVD player, so I know the ports work. I even did an online chat with Dish tech support and they pretty much told me to do everything I have already done. I removed all the cables, component, coax, not coax SAT, analog audio and HDMI and unplugged the box and waited a minute and plugged it back with just HDMI plugged in. No dice. Do you think it is a firmware probllem? Which i have the 4.37 version or do you think my 211 has gone bad. I have had this receiver for almost 2 years and never tried HDMI until now, so I don't know if it ever worked.

Are you sure that your HDMI port on your TV is HDCP compliant?? You might check your manual for your TV.. What model is your Samsung??

Yeah sounds like then it's on the receiver end so you might give Dish a call see about getting them to send you a replacement.

I had a lot of trouble with the HDMI cutting in and out; so much so that I started using Component cables exclusively.

The latest software, 4.37, seems to have fixed it for me.

I have a Hitachi 42HDT79.

If you find that there is a special purpose for HDMI, then ask Dish about repair cost. Otherwise, use component. After installing many VIP receivers on SONY, Toshiba, Sharp, LG and Samsung sets, there doesn't seem to be a nickels differense between HDMI & component in terms of video quality. The latest software appears to have resolved HDMI drop outs for the 211. The electronics industry is taking a closer look at the design of the HDMI design short commings. Component is by far more damage resistant. The "SUPER" HDMI cables don't address the design problems of the chassis connections. If anything, their static weight causes connection failures.
