Programming Off-Center

I have an HD DVR from Dish and a 42" Plasma connected through HDMI. All programming is skewed to the right. When watching ESPN HD and a commercial comes on the left bar that says ESPN HD is fully readable whereas the right one is halfway cutoff. When watching SD in normal mode and not stretched the picture is off center and moved to the right. There are more examples I can give if needed. It is very aggravating. My TV is set to Widescreen and the Dish is outputting 16x9 1080i.

Thanks in advance.

Don't know - I don't see this with my 50" Panny Plasma. Looks OK on either HDMI or Component. Does this happen to you on both HDMI and Component?

Your TV may need to be calibrated. I have a Toshiba rear projection HDTV, and I had to go into the "secret" menu to adjust certain geometry settings to center the picture, reduce overscan, etc. Not sure what kind of TV you have, though...

my sony 34 XBR needs calibrating but no one near me to do this
I also should have called before the damn warranty went out IF that is even covered
It had a 2 year parts and labor since it was the XBR series and cost a LOT more than the other 34 HDTV they make

Watch more CBS News and CNN? :)

In all seriousness, this sounds like an adjustment you need to make on your TV. Try your TV manual, look for an online manual, or call the TV maker. You didn't specify the exact model, but it likely has options to both move the picture around and resize it. You might also try setting your receiver to 16X9 720p mode instead to see if your TV adjusts that differently. (Plus, unless you have a true 1080p tv, may look better)

What is strange, is that at one time it was centered, now it isn't.

Still sound like the TV? I have not tried component.

This should only be done by someone who knows what they are doing. You could mess your set up much worse than what you have now.

I too have a Toshiba 57H84 RPTV and would love to gather up the courage to get my set perfect. I guess I am just a chicken.

I would first make sure your TV itself is set to Normal or Native. Then make sure the reciever is set to Normal. After that I'd try changing the reciever to 720P or 480P just to see if it makes a difference. I know my 32" LCD doesn't like to display 720P through HDMI correctly sometimes. Switching the resolution around fixes it.

I'd also try the other HDMI port on your tv if it has it and lastly the component cable to see if that makes a difference.

I had this same "problem". The installer set my dish receiver to output in 1080, but my TV is only 720p. Are your sure you're TV is 1080?
