I'd like any of the 61.5 HD users to take a look at the following channels and comment on the picture quality.

9419 A&E
9427 Universal HD
9429 National Geographic
9458 Cinemax
9491 History Channel
9499 TBS
9508/9509 NBA TV

I use 129..but my question is if Dish adds HD to 61.5 will it also go to 129 or will all the 129 people screwed if Dish decides to use 61.5 for more (new) HD channels in the future?

I doubt Dish would do that. I don't know the numbers, but I'm sure there are more 129 users than 61.5.

All I can say is ESPN-HD in mpeg-2 sucks so much more than ESPN2-HD on 61.5 does. I was watching a NBA game on ESPN and they had the same highlights on ESPN2 and the PQ was perfect on ESPN2. Pixelated mess on ESPN.

Don't notice any difference in pq. Did something change that I am supposed to see a difference? Maybe some bandwith reclaiming going on?

Compared to my sucky Charter cable subpar picture quality, which is comparable to a 12" black and white tv from 30 years ago most of the time, watching those channels on Dish with my new VIP622, is like looking through my window at the HD version of "Sunrise Earth"! TBS is grainy to my eyes I think, but the rest look VERY good to me.

Actually, my impression has been just the opposite - when my 622 receiver was first installed, two different Tech Reps referred to HD as "129" rather than "HD" on more than one occasion.

Don't watch the last two so no comment on them. I find Cinemax and History to be pretty soft but watchable. The first three channels I find to be excellent.

I have 61.5 and 129. I wish there was some way to force one over the other with out covering the LNB. Stupid switches and boxes can't make up their mind which one to pick. One day it's one and hour later it's the other. Especially since engineering wants me to do some comparisons for audio sync on the two sats.

Ain't that the truth. For me it's easy since I have the DPP44 switch in the garage. I just disconnect one of them and run check switch.

Watched Cinemax last night and it looked a little soft compared to a movie I watched early in the afternoon. It could've been just the movie but for sure it looked a little soft last night. This is from 61.5.

Compare the promos before and after the movie. They are a reference point, any movie may have better or worse quality in the original filming and transfer.

That reminds me of posts about "bad PQ by Dish" where I ask the person how the commercials look and they reply " Commercials look great, but Dish is making the program look really bad, f*in Dish ! ". The commercials are your best indications of Dish's PQ, since they change every 30 seconds to a different data point.

Speaking of hd commercials. If all hd was as clear crisp as most hd commercials, the hd world would be a better place. When I look at these commercials I say almost every time. Why can't hd programming be this good.

So I DVR "Die Hard"
