CE will translate to a national release.

This is great. I wonder if Direct would even have someone that they could appoint to post and report back to them. What a great way to communicate with it's subs.

This would be a great idea, but I doubt that D* will have someone in the forums at all times.
It would be cool if a D* CE person could come into the forum and let us know he's/ she's there so that we could bounce ideas off them.

I wondered how long it would be before that picture showed up :)

It was a great week with several good conversations - we really all do have the same goals.

We already have one. (Actually a few) ;)

Also DirecTV monitors the site 24/7. We are glad to have them here. :D

Are talking about all you guys in the pic having the same goals? Or all us subs and Direct?:D

I have to say Scott, for sometimes being accused of E* bias, you sure give DishNetwork hell sometimes......:)
I do that for all companies, I believe in praise when they are doing good, and giving them hell when they are not. It's only fair to them which also means its also fair for you.

I hold no bias to any company, I am a subscriber to all services. Each company has their pluses and minuses. I would like to help each get rid of their minuses. :D

Glad to hear that DTV is putting us in the fold a bit more. I have no issues at all with dbstalk and thank Earl and everyone over there for all the CE info but this place is just more like home :D

Scott. Wouldn't it be great to have someone from the excutive office at Direct come in and do a monthly or quaterly chat to "bounce some ideas off of them" like Jimbo said.

Mike,

I now understand that some folks like SatelliteGuys, while other may like the other place. Some may not like eaither and go to some other place.

My feeling is if we are all giving the same accurate information that it is good for everyone no matter which site you visit. And that can't be a bad thing can it? :D

I agree, in the end its all about sharing information.

Well, since they are here......if you ever want to regain me, a former 10 year Directv customer who has recently discontinued service, due to a totally underwhelming HR20 product....

GIVE ME TIVO BACK!

Hemi,
No one said CE's were flawless, at least I didn't see that said.
You stated the whole idea of it, testing beta software so D* can get the bugs out BEFORE it hits the National release.

I am surprised that D* has not helped you out with your situation seeing they could clearly see what software you had on your rec. at the time, they should be able to help anyone with a CE issue as this will get the word out that they will help if something should go haywire.

Jimbo
I didn't bring up the software problem to D*. I didn't want them to really know what happend. They gave me a deal on a replacement H-20 since at the time I didn't have protection plan. So I wouldn't have to add more time to my commitment by activating a new receiver. It was never brought up by them again. Whether they ever checked the old receiver I'm not sure. I refuse to bring it to their attention again. They did what they Could IMO. Its not their fault I downloaded unautherised software into a leased receiver they own. I took care of it . But more info needs to be givin out before someone downloads these CE . Its like taking experimental drugs ,are you sure its completely safe? NO! But jTn is talking like software didn't cause it,its not possible.

IMO dBStalk is a D* lovefest. I hope here doesn't get like there. :(

Not that it really matters to me, they're not interested in what I want anyway, that's why I left the sorry suckers! :)

I wouldn't say it's a total D* lovefest. There are plenty of critical posts there and also about various CE releases. Someone posted above about not allowing "bashing" at DBSTalk. Well, it's no different then here. You can bash DirecTV all you want at both places, but you can't bash *posters*, that will be moderated.

So if people say both forums are so different I really don't see it. Both forums have their place and that can be a good thing.

So if you are patient you will get it if you are worried about some of those who claim downloading them (CE) will turn your receiver into a brick. I think it was something else that caused it, but it is open to debate.
Jimbo,
Here's his Quote ,before it gets edited. This sounds to me that he's saying software had nothing to do with mine and atleast 5 others from from killing the H-20. One minute this guy is bad mouthing the CE process and DBS Talk. Next minute he's on his knees for the CE process.

It is funny. The fact is that it *can* happen. I remember the very first CE for the H20 series. It turned a lot of receivers to bricks because it was such a radical change (the H20 wasn't designed 2 years ago with a CE process in mind). DirecTV worked hard for a couple days and provided a work around that got most of them back alive again but some didn't make it and RIP.

It can and does happen but it's very rare. Basically the warnings are posted both here and there just so you know what you are getting yourself into and if something does happen badly you agreed that it might. Of course if you PM Earl or Tom (and maybe someday a mod here) DirecTV will work on replacing your bricked box so you are protected that way. They aren't going to leave you in the wind so to speak. Just don't call a CSR about it because that is what you agreed to in the first place.

That is the best benefit to the lease model for the customers. WHen something goes wrong with the set top box, it is D*s problem, not yours :)

Well, unless you do something really stupid, I guess, like use it as a boat anchor, or a toaster, or something...

No its the customers problem as well.

IF your running the "Normal" software, D* will take care of it, provided you have the protection plan.

Here's what I think should happen:
D* wants those of us willing to d/l the beta software to give feedback, they should offer a special phone number for people that have issues with the CE software, after they have tried to get it working, if it does not come back to life.
The percentage of boxes that die are very few or you would here about it often.

Also on another note.
I feel that if you have to have your rec. replaced due to it not working properly seeing it's leased, you should NOT have to renew your contract status, seeing it's D* product and you don't own it.

Also, IF you have been with the company for more than 2 years, you should not have to w\be required to have a contract after that time if you want to upgrade, you've already shown your commitment to them for 2 years.....

Jimbo

If you are doing CE's and your box is bricked because of the CE then contact me and I will take care of it for you.

It don't get better then that. :D
