New DishHD $29.99 HD Only Package Details

Reading..

about all the possible fees associated with the HD package, it is obvious that the $29.99 is a meaningless figure for sure. I have a leased 622 and HD Locals. The way I see it the final price will be nowhere near the $34.99 w/locals & the $6.00 lease fee. But then again I'm sure Charlie knows this.
I'll just wait awhile and see what the final tab is going to look like before doing anything.
As the old saying goes: If it sounds to good to be true- it usually is :confused:.

So one can just get the the HD package for only 29.95? You don't have to subscribe to a programming package? Is that right.................just wondering

Of course this is announced the DAY AFTER I scheduled cancellation of Dish. They should have done this long ago.

I would reconsider leaving if they did the following.....

1- announced all extra fees formally that have been discussed here (the real cost each month)

2- announced whether future HD channels would be part of this package

3- announced actual HD channels, if any, coming (nationals, not locals)

I have always thought there should be an HD only sat service (Voom was before it's time). This is a version of Dish that is HD only. This is desirable to cable subscribers who don't get enough HD and would subscribe to a second service to get their fill. I subscribed to two for a long time and never liked that I had to pay for basics twice (cable and sat) just to get the HD Dish offered and retain cable.

Dish is on the right track with this. Maybe I'll go back some day to an HD only package. I am really surprised it took them so long to offer something like this.

I'm on the old $9.99 HD pack, this is a no brainer for me, as a base HD package it should remove $13 a month in fees(fines) making it only $7 a month more.

Scott,
Any true about the rumor of having a Dish Latino MAX HD Package or a Latino DVR Advantage package?

Thanks

hd only

there is no way i am going to join this package if there is not an option for my RSNHD. i live in chicago where the sox, cubs, bulls, hawks all play a ton of games on comcast hd, and without that channel is sucks. it took dish long enough to get that in the first place! also, if they dont give an option to buy the premium movie packages in HD, this doesnt make any sense. this package and the new changes are for dish to make money, not to give better service, just always remember that. dish is a business and needs to make money!

1-Fees are the same except for the Hd enabling fee going up $1.00.

2-I don't think Dish can answer that right now untill the contracts are signed with the channels. I just speculating here but I bet dish found a loophole in the "must be in ??? package" clause they have with the programmers to offer this package.

3-I'm tired of getting lied to about future channels that we all knew would not be ready in time. If dish had announced SiFi and Usa before they were are a done deal I would be more pissed than the way they are doing it now.

I love my HD DVR and I can wait a few months to see if all the channels show up.

Now do you think this HD only pack is what charlie was refering to as "the first mpeg4 HD only service" at team summit? If so I wonder what he has up his sleve for the Broadband in every house?

I rarely watch SD anymore. A few shows on FX, Speed, and Scifi. If Dish adds those, I'm jumping on it. Don't watch RSNs so it doesn't matter that I can't get those. Now an HD only premium pack would be the icing on the cake.

What about PBS. Aren't providers required to carry PBS. Will we get the local sd channel?

Well you see, $29.95 a month is not the truth... you have the enabling fee, 622 rental, etc.... that is what I meant... They will have a big flashy $29.99 a month HD only banner on their site, but that isn't being truthful. Not to pick on Dish... all cable and sat companies do this. It is just dishonest.

I have a business, I charge $XX/hour for service with a one hour minimum and 10 minute increments after the first hour. I have no hidden charges. There is no sticker shock. My customers know what they are getting. My website tells it like it is. No flashy deceptive ads with a lower than monthly price.

I'll bet I sleep better at night than Charlie. But then again, I may have the edge on him with Ambien. But my Honest Abe approach isn't hurting my slumber any either. Charlie should do the same.

I have Dish (in the process of canceling) and don't have a PBS feed. Doesn't that come with locals only?

But I don't care. I never watch PBS but I get it on cable and OTA on the rare occasion I might.

Everyone here has been lost in the excitement of this new all hd pack, I think it sucks because that $10 HBO/SHO/Startz/Cinemax HD's rumor did not come true.

Also this package is apparently aimed to stop people from leaving, but not to save you all $30 a month, because if so Dish will lose big in revenue.

So my guess from this news is:

1) There will be no or very few new HDs added for a long time, probably not until end of this year;
2) Even if a few new ones will be added, they likely will not be included in this package;
3) Don't expect this package to make too much sense, like adding a few news and children's channels, because everyone will be saving $30 a month switching to it, and Dish will lose big;
4) For the same reason, don't expect any RSN's.

It is aimed at people who want to move to cable or D* yet still see the point of keeping Dish at the same time. To stop the bleeding so to speak.

I don't see why Dish wouldn't sell all the add ons available with any other packages. Wouldn't make any sense. "What, Dish Doesn't want to makle more MONEY with add ons!?" :confused:

This sounds pretty good to me. I think it's aimed at the former Voom (satellite service) customers and other HD-technophiles.
