New DishHD $29.99 HD Only Package Details

Are center ice subscribers still being denied access to this package? I had some online csr "supervisor" tell me the only way it would work is for family pack + Hd access, although I've successfully been a essential programming + HD enabling fee subscriber since I switched to Direct for main during the NFL SUnday ticket promotion. Now, if I could get all that I get and the voom package + vshd through dish, and the option of adding a hd dvr during 2q2008 with my 211, that would be it. I would have all HD that I could get for the cheap.

FWIW when I go in as a new customer and select the dishHD $29.99 tab, The HD Enabling fee still shows up when I get to the "design your system" tab, as "equipment fees $12.98" and is broken out as $7 HD enabling and $5.98 DVR fee when you hover over the little ? box. .

Yeah, I'm getting that too. And I'd be a totally new customer if I signed up. For some reason I'm thinking at $30, "That's a great deal!" But at $37 I'm hesitant, I guess because it looks like nickel and diming. Why not just make the package $37?

I dunno, I've been flirting with Dish for years since I think Voom sounds great, at least in theory (I can't think of another channel devoted to Asian cinema, let alone in high def) though I know it has its detractors. And it's not like I'm overjoyed with DirecTV, I think I would have switched already if it wasn't for that stupid NFL package monopoly. Even at $37 this might be enough to get me in, and keep DirecTV around at some minimal-to-modest level.

I went into Dish Builder and did the dishHD package (I am a new prospective customer), and I don't see the dish enabling fee. I chose DVR - it says $5.98 for that. It also gave me a $39.99 rebate for the first month. Apparently, I will get that rebate for 10th and 20th month of service too. I just choose dishHD, DVR, local programming. It comes to 29.99 + 5.00 + 5.98. That's it. BTW, this is with 24 month commitment. They did not mention which DVR I am getting. Hopefully it is not a SD DVR since I chose the dishHD package!

If I end up ordering, will Dish abide by these prices that are quoted here or would they change the pricing (such as add the $7 fee) and make me get it.

I am tempted, but right now I pay nothing since I do just HD OTA. So, $41 hike is a pretty big deal. Plus we have a new baby coming in two weeks!!! Choices choices.

It doesn't sound so good anymore! Why doesn't E* just come out and say Its $36.99 . ITs Not $29.99. Thats false! Its a flat out lie. Unless someone can tell me a way around the BS HD enabling fee, That should not be there in the first place since this is an HD package. E* can take this package and put it right up Charlie's a@#!

Wow, I was about to call up and get rid of Voom to save $10 and saw this thread. I had the basic lineup (top 100 or whatever) or whatever the minimum package was to receive HD channels. I had this package for about a year. Missed National Geographic and the Science Channel - a lot.

I logged on and saw this thread, and thought "gee, I only watch HD, this makes perfect sense!"

Just called up Dish, switched, now I have National Geographic, the Science Channel, and my bill is only $41/month!

Thanks OP. What a deal! (I have hulu for anything I missed!) :hungry:

There's no $7/mo HD enabling fee with this package.

Weird, I'm doing the exact same thing but still getting the extra $7 attached. Maybe it's a dishbuilder software issue.

I just confirmed with the CSR, that one HD-DVR with dishHD package is 29.99 + 5.98. That's it. Add $5.00 for the locals. Also, they have cash back rebates to for $120. (1st, 10th and 20th month).

And that the cheapest this Package is $41 If you want DVR add another $5.98. For 1 Room . No way They Fee'ed the hell out of this pack.

Well maybe I was lied to, but this is how it came out:

$29.99
plus locals
$35 ish
plus DVR
$41 ish
plus "dish protection"
$46 ish

I called to drop the "dish protection" (have spent over $200 - what a cash cow for Dish).

After taxes, my new bill is ~$41ish.

No other hidden fees...not sure what you are seeing.

I didn't sign any 24 month agreement either. Still contract free.

Thats sounds a little better!

Yeah, I just confirmed it with one of those online chat people.

So this is kind of awesome, then. :)

The CSR said that I could get 722 or 622 or 612. They will choose but I can request one in the installation comments. That seems a little awkward. What happens if the installer brings the wrong one. I want the 722.

I haven't ordered yet. Still debating. I watch mostly local HD using a HDHomeRun dual tuner as DVR on my iMac connected to my 61" JVC 1080p TV. Looks and sounds great (audio through my H/K AVR 745 receiver). Most of my favorite shows are locals like 24, Prison Break, House, etc. I haven't watched cable/sat in a long time.

Also, my system is simple right now - 2 HDMI inputs on the H/K AVR 745. I use the imac on one, the PS3 on the other. One HDMI going to the TV. The TV has one more HDMI free (which I could use for the dish. Then my harmony has to be programmed for switching between the two HDMI inputs which is always a pain because of JVC's stupid IR commands that gets out of sync. My iMac does all web video on the TV, Front Row, eyeTV (with HDHomerun) for HD locals. Great quality. I am using comcast temporarily because I got a cheap $20/month internet access through them without video service but I get local channels through QAM anyway. Well - again - choices..... I am rambling now....
