About a month ago, I switched from E* to D*, with the reason being HD content (yeah, yeah, grass greener, I know). Anyhow, I just got a call from E* wondering why I left, so I told the lady exactly why. She then proceeded to tell me that "DISH is the leader in HD" and offers over 70 channels that I can subscribe to today with more on the way. I said, "So you're telling me that I can subscribe to 70 channels of HD with DISH right now?" with her responding "Yes." This resulted in an argument. I asked if they were including all of the HD RSNs (which I can't see, obviously), and she said no, that the cound doesn't include HD RSNs or premiums. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? I just don't get it. Perhaps if they had said that they're not there yet, but are working on it, that would have sat better, but I'm astonished that they would just call and outright lie. Is E* really that much in denial that they have to resort to stuff like this?

Please note that this isn't meant to be inflammatory, and I know that I'm now a D* sub posting in the E* forum and as such should watch my step. I'm not trying to start a "mine's better than your's" thread, but if for some reason it devolves into that, please move to the WarZone.

They're much better off be being honest with what they actually have.

That's all they got right now ...

YOU know they ain't the HD leader - I know they ain't the HD leader and 99% of the people reading this forum know that they ain't the HD leader .. but as long as they keep their eyes closed and put their fingers in their ears and yell "na na na na na" over and over again - they can just about convince themselves that they are indeed the "HD leader"

Anyone that can tell you that dish IS the HD leader without cracking a smile is simply smoking or drinking something that isn't legally available to the rest of us.

;)

I really wonder how many customers Dish has gotten by telling people this bs.

Damn Dish. Just be upfront with your subs and customers that may want to be a sub. Is this too much to ask for? I will answer that. Hell yea it is!!!

You are acting like the ugly girl in school who thought she was so damn hot:D

I got a similar call and almost lost it when the guy had no clue. They REALLY need to come up with a better approach than lying to people who know better. The call was totally counterproductive.

My question is who is in charge. Who would allow something like this to go on. How many that work at Dish really know what is going on??

Are these decision makers the same ones that will not add more hd?? Are they the same person or group of people?

You are lucky, got only one call. Three weeks ago they called me (I switched to D* as you did in December) 4 (!) times in one evening. Moreover second call followed almost immediatly after I hanged up with the first caller. Everybody started quick that they want me back. After I answered NO they just did not listen to me and keep asking when it will be convinient for me to make a setup appointment.

I wonder if they are hurting? If so how bad? I would like to know the real numbers of how many have left to go with D* or some other service because of HD.

What kind of "win-back" offers were they throwing around .. anything worth having - or just the basic programming for the normal price along with the assurance that you are going to be signing up with the current HD leader ?

They have to be hurting badly. They are lucky I haven't left yet. But I'll give them through March to get that bird up and make amends, or I'll finally have to pull up my 11 year old Dish Stakes and make the jump.

I'm not giving them that long. I'm just waiting for my tax refund to off set the cost of the dvr's and I'm going over to D*. I've been with dish for years, tired of all the hurry up and wait. I had to wait for a very, very long time to my locals (not hd, just locals. Had the old single lnb dish. Ya'll rember that?)

Soon, to be a D* customer. How you like that use of the word "soon" charLIE!

Well, this is actually not the first time they called, but it is the first time they've blatently came out and made the statements I described. I've also seen the number on the caller ID a bunch of times (20+) that I haven't answered. I just happened to answer by mistake today.

You should have said, " i have my pen & paper- name me the 70 hd channels" I would love to know what the others are as i have dish and there only is about 42 hd channels.

They might actually be hurting more than we know and don't want to lose many more customers compared to the low number of new subscribers. I have to say that their marketing has always been amateurish compared to Direct. Now with Direct bombarding their HD print, television and radio ads, it can't be good for Dish. I take the new ad campaign by Dish as the signal that they are hurting. By the way your average consumer shopping the big box stores don't even know that Dish exists...

The next person who gets a call like this, tell the person "I've got a paper and pencil ready. Please read me the list of these 70 channels." and see how it goes. :)

Yeah, I want the list...make them list them out.

I love my DVR, but this not having the Cable Networks in HD is stupid.

Tried that - got much backpedaling. Basically, the answer was that she couldn't name them, but they're there, and if I don't agree then I'm wrong. I thought the customer was always right - it's bad practice to tell the customer that "you're wrong, sir" and then not be able to back it up.

If I hadn't gotten mad and ended the call, I would have brought up that a large number of the channels are VOOM, which I used to appreciate, but lately - not so much...
