It is indeed a HUGE gamble. As a subscriber to digital cable with HD, including my locals, as well as all the OTA HD locals picked up in at least one of my two TV rooms with a pair of $50 Indoor Radioshack antennas, I turned to Dish over a year ago for more HD. I never subscribed to locals and never cared about HD locals with them. I, like many, wanted Dish for HD nationals. I had them as a secondary service to cable. They weren't even my HD local backup, the antenna was.
I subscribed to Dish for the HD Nationals. During that year my cable company caught up with Dish in HD national offerings. At that point I threw in the towel and canceled Dish. Now they have an HD only package, which seems to be on the right track, but all they offer that I don't get now is the Infamous for going downhill since November, Voom. If Dish picked up 10 or more nationals that I can't get with cable, I'd subscribe to them again.
I understand not all, but most city dwellers can pick up most if not all of the HD locals via antenna. I think there are a lot of people that want Dish for the HD nationals. You are right, their plan is a gamble focusing on HD LILs.... that is specifically why I left them.
I'd consider picking them up again in the future if they got their sh*t together but they have a long way to go.
I am watching all the Hd channels I can have right now on Directv. I added them for more hd back in January. I still have DISH just for the hd pack and my locals. If any hd is added to DISH I should see it with the hd pack. IF you are tired of waiting for more hd , just downgrade to Hd pack and add DIRECTV for more hd NOW. ON March 31st Directv is supposed to add ABC family and some other national channels in hd .

I think next week will be thier Waterloo. The get the 2 SkyAngle tp after March 31st. That means room for maybe 12 National HD channels, so if they don't do it on next Wednesday I give up. Maybe they are holding of on USA and SciFi until then too so they can make a big splash. My concern is many of us (me included) use 129 not 61.5 so I don't know if the can add the channels to 129 so we can get them, or will we need another dish. Like I said to me next Wednesday is D Day
