I have DirecTV with Hd aka 5lnb dish. I know this is an odd question but can I reuse the same roof mount I have now? Just remove the D* lnb/dish and have E* place their dish on the mount? Also I live in CT does E* have a combo dish yet vs having two actual dishes? If i have no issues getting recsption with my current setup is dish nstwork close so i dont have to worry? And last question - I hear romors that E* will be adding local HD including WTNH which D* doesn't have is this true?

Thank you
john

Yeah Dish HD Receivers are allot better and it seems Dish has more of a curve on MPEG4.. Yeah 5 LNB Dish is crazy but anyway I think you will like Dish allot better and I have several friends who left Direct. They all say they wish they had done it sooner just overall they were happier with Dish receivers so forth.. Either way go with what fits your needs the best I think Sat TV is the best thing out there over cable and IPTV.. Just my 2 cents.. :)

It depends on the mast size, everything that DISH Network uses today is 1 5/8.

Im not sure how big the mast is on the Directv 5 LNB Dish, but if its 1 5/8 then you should be to easily switch to DISH without an issue. You may still require a 2nd Dish for 61.5 until the eastern arc service is launched in late may.

Don't mean to sound like an advertisement here, but if your considering going to Dish, the Dishstore has a great offer that when you sign up helps support this board and gives you up to $125 back as a rebate...

I switched from Direct to E* about a year and a half ago. They used the same mount that was already in place from my D* setup. I have the 1000 with the triple LNB if that means anything to you. I think my Direct was only a single LNB. I really have been pleased with my E* service though. Wish I would have been aboard sooner.

You can get the 110, 119 & 129 with one dish and lnb but you can not get the 61.5 along with the other signals with one dish. The mast sizes for both are the same and the new dish can be mounted on your existing mast with no problem if it is good and plumb and aligned properly.

Wow, this thread is a breath of fresh air! Thanks for posting, guys.

Yeah it seems every is doing the reverse of what I want to do - LOL

It does seem like I'll need to dishes though - which is really an issue with the wife.

So if my DirecTV 5LNB picks up all of my current sats - will the Dish unit be close? I have a tree line a few clicks below my current setup (not on my land) and I have zero issues with getting reception. I guess I was just curious if the main sats with dish were lower in the sky? And the 61 sat - I assume that is the HD sat correct? and is that lower or higher in the sky?

The 5 LNB Directv Dish sees 119/110, so you would get 119 and 110 on Dish for sure. This is great for standard definition the only issue is HD, which you'll need 129 or 61.5

Quick pipe adapter is the thing to use on a D* mast to convert it to use for Dish. DNS installers carry them. Unsure if many subs do.

Does this mean if I wait until late May, E* might have an option where I might not need 2 dishes to receive HD programming?
From what I've read on this forum, the Eastern Arc is a group of 2-3 satellites (in the vicinity of 61.5) that will carry ALL of the Dish channels by using MPEG4 compression and can be seen with a single (double or triple LNB) dish. It is not clear yet how much the failure of AMC-14 to reach orbit will effect the timing of this deployment.

Until then, it takes two dishes ( a D1000 for 110/119/129 and a D500 for 61.5) to get both the SD/HD national/local content (on 110/119) and the HD local content (on 61.5) for many of the DMAs Dish recently made available. Note: some RSNs are on 129.
