No New Hd On 05-07-08

It is taking way to long to get new HD. I now know why so many are going to Direct TV.........

No one ever stated "There will be new HD today." All that has been posted was speculation.

Technically, the original poster never accused anyone of stating that. He, like me, was just frustrated that they didn't add any. I'm glad to see them uplinked, makes me think that maybe they're closer...

What about The Weather Channel .... I thought that goes live in HD in June. From the uplink it sounds like ESPN News, ABC Family, Toon Disney, Disney, and Bravo will be added this Friday and next Friday. I don't really find too much exciting about these channels with the exception of ESPN News. Only channels left I care about are MGM, Travel (not carried by Direct), and Smithsonian. Movie channels will be nice in the multiple feeds for some but I don't really care for the movie channels anyway.

The weather channel has some HD programming, including their series such as, When Weather Changed History, Epic Conditions, Weather Ventures, and their Local on the 8's. It is just the station broadcast that are not in HD. This is still a far cry from no HD content.

FWIW ... I have the 5.99 multi sports channels (12.00 for Direct) and hard to classify as National when any pro sport game is blacked out unless they are in my market.
They are not blacked out if you order the respective sports packages (which you can do on Direct) and there are many people that do. With EI, League Pass, Center Ice, ex and the Sports pack, you will be able to get the other RSN's 24/7. That by definition is national. Since you don't have that option with Dish, then I guess one can say that they are technically only national on Direct??? But, I still wouldn't go that far. Since both providers offer these channels to the nation, even if it is only part time, they are still considered national. Anyway, it is a mute point since both are pretty equal in the number of HD RSN's offered anyway.

Exactly what my response to Dodger was going to be. Unless the RSN is 24/7 HD, then it is likely that only the pro sports will be in HD and those get blacked out, so no HD for the folks across the country.

Read my post above. With Direct one can get out of market RSN's 24/7. The out of market games are shown with the specific sports subscriptions. I currently have MLB EI HD and I can watch MLB games in HD on these stations. That by definition is a national HD broadcast.

Again, why are we arguing this anyway? Both providers count them or both don't; it does not change the count much when dealing with which provider carries more HD channels.

Evidently the mods only work 9-5 ?

This started out as an immediate candidate for being pasted into the "No New HD Complaint Thread"...

... until it morphed into an obvious D* vs E* Wars Forum thread...

Partially my fault. Sorry about that. Future posts on this thread by me will be on topic.

Do people just like to make things up, or are they actually too lazy to find out the truth?

All of those channels show HD content. Some like Smithsonian, ESPN News, many of the additional premium movie channels, and MGM show HD ALL of the time (Dish does not have these channels). The only ones that show NO HD content are the MTV channels (MTV, VH1, and CMT). That makes just 3, a far cry from most...

I noticed today that even Disney now has HD programming.

Thanks for the clarification. Being with D* I didn't even consider the existence of MLB EI and using it to see out of market content without the blackout. Throw in similar Hockey and Basketball packages and I see the argument for considering RSNs in HD as national.

I'm not sure I agree. I don't think any of us were arguing the merits of E vs D, just getting clarification on the numbers the other side is using.

I will nevertheless apologize if my tone came off as confrontational. That was really not my intent. (Then again, being a Giants fan, maybe my subconscious isn't really allowing me to be non-confrontational with DodgerKing :D)

I know I promised no more OT posts, but one last one. I see Zito didn't pitch all that bad today. Maybe is is coming out of his funk?

No idea... one can only hope. But it's the hitting side of things where the Giants need real help... But at least they're outperforming my spring training expectations...

And that's all the more reason for getting CSNBA HD to watch... So BOOOO to Dish for not making it available! (Does that count as getting back on topic?)

They have been, but they are not enabled for Alaska. Even though they put them on 110 and we can see them, Dish refuses to allow Alaska to view them.

Whenever I see the frakking red channels in the guide:

:D
"No, you're never gonna get it

You are not really missing much. Unlike most RSN's, including the two here in SoCal (FSN West and Primeticket), CSNBA HD is only a part time station and is shared by all of your BA teams (They do have a + station, but that is SD only). Because of that the Giants have few games shown in HD on CSN anyway. In fact this week, they only had one game on CSN shown in HD. Whereas places like NY and here in LA, like all of the other cities with multiple sports teams, they have two or more full time HD RSN stations. Which pretty much means all teams are in HD all of the time.

Well the week not over yet.. :)
What I was getting at is so far this year the Giants have had few to little games shown in HD on CSN. Looking at the schedule, less than half of the games are being broadcast in HD on CSN. The BA needs two full time RSN's.

From what I am hearing we could see two of those channels this week.

The interesting part is we will probably see all the rest of those channels uplinked next week, just in the time for the opening of Dish Networks Team Summit event.

Lack of National HD channels has been a huge issue to retailers, Dish will dampen that complaint by launching this wave of HD channels.

What hapens after that wave of HD launches is anyones guess.

Stay Tuned.

Scott. Are you referring to the other 20 or so hd channels that were listed on Charlie Chat??
