what HD channels will come next?

I would hope for brand new channels , not just hd channels that we already have sd of but new fresh content. P*** on spike hd, speed hd,and all of that crap!! If you can only watch it in hd then the programming isnt that good.Add the mirrior channels LAST!!

Here are the rest of the upcoming channels mentioned in the March 18th press release:
  • AMC HD
  • BET HD
  • CMT HD
  • HBO2 HD
  • IFC HD
  • MoreMAX HD
  • MTV HD
  • Nickelodeon HD
  • Starz Edge HD
  • Superstation WGN HD
  • VH-1 HD
A few of the channels activated yesterday weren't mentioned in the release, so Charlie could have some more surprises in store.

Hmmm...coincidentally 11 channels, and they just dropped 10. I'm not holding my breath for any Rainbow channels, though. :( WGN was already uplinked, along with 2 Showtimes, The Movie Channel, and Mojo.

None of this (except Mojo) would help the fact that they just removed 10 channels from a $10 upgrade package and replaced them with 3.

So, does anyone know if the Viacom channels do Stretch-O-Vision?

I keep asking this, but...what are these magical channels?

To make their pricing structure make sense, they need to replace the Voom channels with HD-Exclusive channels. We got 3. There's still Mojo. What's left? I'm sure I'm missing a few, but the fact is, the existing providers are leading the way. And eventually, it'll be great.

I'm looking at a list of 200 HD channels on Wikipedia, and I just don't see much that's HD only AND in the US AND we don't already have (or had in Voom's case.)

As far as I'm concerned, they can't add too many HD Premiums, as (except for whatever is wrong with the 5 Star Max feed) they have MOSTLY true HD, and I'm a movie lover.

OR, if they add enough SD mirrors, I would consider moving to HD only. Comedy Central would be the big one.

I agree to an extent. Although I'm glad Dish added about 15 HD but new programs like MGM and Smithsonian are cool. The two new Cinimax's are cool too but my favorite doesn't exist. I would die if there was a College Football HD channel that showed nothing but "true" classic games. ESPN Classic's a joke.

Maybe Dish plans to drop the HD Ultimate package and create a $5 HD Extra pack a la DirecTV?

I am hoping for Spike to come next. The UFC Ultimate Fighter is in HD this season, and all of the UFC fight nights on Spike. This is the only channel DTV has that I wish Dish had.

there are alot of folks that watch the UFC, but are probably not the same demographic that write on this board. The demographic of members on this forum are more interested in SciFi than cage fighting.

Adding all the premium movie channel HD's would go a long way in swaying my urges to leave E* after the VOOM disaster. Things like WFN, ABC Family, Hallmark, Tennis, and the like won't cut it. I will give praise to the additions of Smithsonian and MGM, those are great channels.

The channels I want most are AMC, and Chiller HD. For me I'm looking for movies (and old TV shows) I can't get anywhere else. I also wouldn't mind Spike, MTV, VH1 and E HD also.
Monsters HD is one of my most recorded channels. Kung Fu HD is becoming another big one. Repeats aside, there is NO other place you can watch the many movies they have. Of the new channels, MGM and Smithsonian are my favorite. More prem. movie channels don't hurt either.

Not yet. And if we're calling for non-existent ones, it's all about TCM HD.

Are there plans for a TCM HD? Wow, as a classic movie lover that would be the best channel ever, even more than Monsters HD. ;) Something tells me it would be stretchorama like TNT and TBS, however.

If they replace what we just lost with those i'd be a happy guy... then only 2 more to go until I am able to switch to the all HD package (BBC America and Comedy Central).

A.

TCM HD has been rumored off and on for some time, but many believe that the costs involved are slowing things down. The station is allowed to operate without interference front the usual Turner crap because it is financially self-contained. An HD move could jeopardize that.

TCM would NEVER, I repeat, NEVER stretch the image. TCM was on the forefront of broadcasting films in the correct aspect ratio. If and when TCM goes HD, the folks in charge there will certainly do it right.

(I have seen some TCM movies in HD on HDNETMovies and the Voom Channels (*sob*).)

Hopefully, the powers-that-be at TCM are waiting until they can get it right. Maybe Robert Osbourne saw a stretched Wizard Of Oz showing on TNT and said "You're not screwing up my channel!"

Even an upconverted TCM with no stretching would be an improvement. As it is now, I wind up zooming all the letterboxed programming and it gets a little grainy and artifact-y. AAGH...I just imagined a nightmare situation...a letterboxed Cinemascope film being stretched. Even without stretch-o-vision, it wouldn't be fixable. If you zoom the picture, you cut off the sides. If you "un-stretch" it, you're back where you started with a tiny picture surrounded by black bars.

Totally random...I live about 35 miles from Sedona, AZ. A few months ago, I forgot about their annual film festival. On Saturday afternoon, we just decided to drive down and see if we could get into a screening. The only one that wasn't sold out was Sunset Blvd. It seemed odd anyway, since Sedona Film Fest tries to be a mini-Sundance...they always have world premieres of movies you've never heard of, and usually never hear of again. Anyway, I had never seen Sunset Blvd from beginning to end, so we buy two tickets. If we had read the program, we would have know what was going to happen, but we get seated and Robert Osborne comes out and introduced the film! Afterward, he told some stories about the production, like he does.

Afterward, I said "If we had stayed home, we would have watched Robert Osbourne intro some old movie, but this way we got to pay $20 to do it!"

I do hope it's in the near future...That would be SUPERB. Voom Movies and FilmFest had quite a few classics like Witness for the Prosecution, Hitchcock movies, Billy Wilder movies, Anatomy of a Murder, etc. They looked great. Hopefully MGM and HDNMV will continue on this path.

I would like Discovery's Green planet (I believe it's hd) which first airs june 4, a wednesday, I would like to see a channel go up the first day it airs atleast once . I mean E* says they negotiate the best possible price, but E* isn't that much cheaper than d*. either give us the channels or pass on more of the savings.

Charlie's next HD launch.........................Vegetable Planet dedicated to the growing, preparation and consumption of Root, Stalk, Leaf, Tuber, and Inflorescent vegetables throughout the world !!!! all in glorious HIGH DEFINITION !! Yes !!! at last an alternative to HD Weather and Lets catch a Fish Oh yeah I forgot the Dish Network Exclusive The Colonoscopy Channel Yes!! ................ live 24/7 !!

Once again Dish Network clearly exhibits that they are "The Leader in HD"

I would think that Dish will be adding at least a couple more channels in next couple weeks to help turn some of the negative momentum from pulling the Voom channels. Logically, those channels will probably be from the six or so that are currently uplinked......but we know Dish is rarely logical! I would think adding Mojo to the ultimate package would be a high priority.

I see Dish taking the WFN approach. Providing channels no other network with a brain would touch.

WPP HD - world ping pong network HD
WSS HD - world synchronized swimming channel HD
WPC HD - world pool championship HD
AFC HD - animated film classics HD
FPC HD - fireplace channel HD
Court HD
TCHD - traffic channel HD
711F HD - view from inside 7-11 freezer chest HD
WCDF HD - world cow dung flinging championship channel HD
PONG HD
