I'm upgrading from a 942. They said it would be a 622 instead of a 722 receiver, but I've heard on this forum that the installers don't install 622's anymore. I told the Dish rep but she insisted I was wrong. I tried to get her to change, but since I was getting a great deal she said no. What's up?

All the 622's that I've installed lately (yes...we STILL install them) have been remanufactured units. A lot of it is determined by availability. If I don't have a 622 available, I'm not shy when using a 722 in its place.

When the installer comes out, he will bring a 622 if he can, if not he will bring a 722. You can usually pay an additional $50 and get a 722 if you want. They are the exact same unit except the 622 is silver w/30HD or 200sd hours of recording & the 722 is black w/55HD or 350sd hours. Also the 722 has the ability to get HD "On Demand" and the 622 can only do sd, but who uses there stupid on demand feature anyway?

If it's a DNS technician, more than likely it ill be a 722. I know I refuse to clutter up my van with 622s anymore. I only carry 722s because I don't often get work orders for 622s.

The Outdated Receiver replacment promotion for (6000,811,921,and 942) is a free promotion with no commitment and also no choice on the receiver you get.

6000, 811 = VIP 211
921, 942 = VIP 622

At least the work order will build with a 622 if their are none you may get a 722. Count your lucky stars if you get a 722

If you absolutly want a 722 you must do the DIU with the 24 month commit. 5 star accounts get it for 125 dollars.

Thanks!

I don't need the extra hard drive space nor the other advantages. I wanted to know if the 622 has more problems than the 722. If not, the 622 will be fine.

Sorry off OP here, but if I have a 622 and want to upgrade to a 722 is it possible?

One way is if you have a prob with your 622 you might get a 722 as a replacement (as long as its on a service call-not if E* ships you one) some older 622's had HDMI probs a lot. You can also do a dishing it up to a 722, not sure how much $ though.

Thanks all. I called Dish but they repeated that since I'm not signing any time committement, ( I will be moving in 1.5 years), there is no choice but the 622. Hopefully the installer will not have any on the truck and I'll get a 722.

Thanks for the info. I also didn't sign a contract, so I'm probably stuck with my 622, which has been without issues, I just wanted the larger HDD.

Yes. This is correct. Dish has now tiered its HD STB products. The 612 at lowest fee. Then 622 can be had for an additional upgrade. Then lastly the 722 at the top for a further upgrade fee. I believe the 722 is considered "enhanced" DVR.

Based on the complaints on the boards, the 622 seems to have far more bugs than the 722. As an owner of 722's, I can say that I have never experienced any of the reported 622 problems, especially after a software update. My experience has been that the 722 is extremely solid. The 722 is the best STB Dish has ever offered, and preforms well.

I'm acutally in the middle of one of these HDMI problems with my 622. It's a leased unit so when I contacted Dish they said they would send me a replacement but I have to cover the shipping. Is it possible to get the replacement from an installer so I don't have to pay the shipping and possibly get the 722?

I have never had issues with my 622 except for some transfers to my PocketDish (multiple transfers fail, single transfer are fine). It is only noisy when it does its nightly reboot - otherwise it is completely quiet. I just purchased a 722 to replace my 942 (it should be delivered today); it was the only new model that I could find for purchase, but I would have gladly purchased a new 622.

I had both of mine replaced for the HDMI problem and didn't pay for shipping on either one. I even got a free HDMI cable out of it somehow.

kinda off topic. I currently have one 622. What are the fees if I want a second 622 or 722 if installed myself?

I contacted them by chat about two hours ago and was able to get the shipping fee waived. Now I've got to figure out how to watch everything on my DVR before I can get the new one and send back the old one.

I was still trying earlier today to see if I could get them to deliver the receiver from an installer when/if I get a second dish for HD locals but no dice. I was hoping I might get a 722 then :)
