greetings,

my Dish 500 dish relocate is done!! (thank you all for your advice. turned out very good. all readings are 60 or higher on the updated meter and no losses any more. PQ is great!!)

thinking ahead, i started to look at how the HD install will go. i realized that even though the 1000.2 dish says 214 degrees, i still need to see 129 at 225 degrees. this points me right at a very tall tree. no place on the lot to avoid it.

however, i CAN see 61.5.

so, i think i can do 110 and 119 from one dish and 61.5 from another??

the question is:

when comparing 61.5 and 129, is this an either/or? meaning, will 61.5 give me the same national HD programming and be an acceptable alternative to using 129?? i don't really need locals or local sports, just add HD.

will dish understand when i tell them i can't see 129 and need a second dish for 61.5?

again, thank you for your help in the past, :D

Yes, they will. 61.5 pretty much equals 129, without the problems. Don't know where your locals are, but if you don't care, it doesn't matter. I have 2 dishes- one for 110/119 and one for 61.5.

is there a place to find out where my locals are?
I'm sure there's somewhere with a simple answer, but this is where I look when I want to see what is on each bird.
At the top of that page, select any other satellite in their fleet.

As for using two dishes to get around trees, I'm all for that! - :up
Less trouble to point initially, and less trouble to maintain, IMO.
And of course if you need a stronger 129º signal, then use a 24", 30", or bigger stand-alone FTA dish. -

Look here for all channels, all sats. You can look down the left side for your town, or search.

excellent, thank you

looks like i am out of luck for local HD on 61.5

(1) Channel shows on Lyngsat.com or other reliable satellite scans, but not available to regular subscribers.

but the SD versions are on 110.

thanks all.

what cities locals are you looking for? Some are uplinked on 61.5 just not turned over to subscribers yet (but maybe "soon")

Just my two cents but I have a Dish 500 and a 2nd dish for 61.5 using an SW-21 to tie it in. I've always had trouble with the 61.5 position when the slightest storm clouds come my way. I stopped using 61.5 entirely and my outage issues decreased tremendously.

That said, I'm sure there are many others who have very few problems with that setup.

Scroll - sounds like your 61º dish wasn't aligned properly.

My 61.5 dish goes out also. On a clear sunny day I get 55 on TP1 where my locals are. With 61.5 having its own dish and my being in NE Ohio its so high in the sky I would have expected higher numbers and no outtages.

What do others get on TP1 from 61.5? Maybe I should have them come back and fix it?

Right now, I'm getting 26 on TP1. Cloudy, no rain. I get no outages, save in the largest rainstorms.

I'd say you're doing just fine.
