Where it's Warm
Ciel has received approval for their new orbital slots and is flogging the market to sell capacity. Looking at E1's age, Dish's announced BSS satellites under construction, and the Ciel capacity plans, I'm thinking Dish will likely abandon their 148 licence and lease capacity on Ciel-4 at 138.

That would require repoints for every customer currently using 148:

EKB: Dish Network Channels at 148°

so it won't happen unless absolutely necessary.

say whaaaaat ?

Let's just see 'em successfully get Ciel-2 off the ground and parked at 129º - :up

As for giving up a license, wouldn't that be like giving up a kidney... or a child?
I don't see Charlie doing any of the above... unless someone pays him millions!

I doubt it. They are most likely going to put the locals that are on 148 on the new sat for 129. THen they would of had a one sat dish choice for the west coast and Alaska /Hawiia. They would of also had a one dish solution for the east coast if the old echos sat 2 had survived the move to 72.7. Now who knows what will happen.

I've not been keeping up, but . . .
Is Ciel-2 @ 129º going to have a spotbeam for Hawaii?
Makes good sense.

But haven't they been spotbeaming the islands with 119º all along?
I don't think Hawaii gets any signal at all from 148º bird(s).

And if I'm not mistaken, they need two 3' or 4' dishes for 119/110...?
Not sure about that.

As for the joke about giving up a kidney... or a child.. and, all it takes is money....
I guess that one skimmed over the heads of some readers. ;)

Boy, I hope you're right about that. I'm pulling my locals off of 148 and w/ all the dishes I have it looks like I work for NASA.

You're correct. As giving up the licenses would invite competition. This is the real reason, IMHO, why Charlie has so many far-flung slots and licenses.
