I called last night to upgrade my 311 to a DVR and I was told by the Rep that they currently dont offer a DVR only an HD-DVR. What kind of bull crap is this? I dont care for an HD-DVR because I do nto have a HD tv.

Technically, that is correct AS FAR AS a single output DVR is concerned. There are the 522/625's that are dual output (Tv1 & 2) but can be used in single mode. Call again and ask about the 625.

You are better off getting a 612, even though you will not be using HD services any time soon. You want an MPEG4 receiver to be future proof.

More like $9, since the extra receiver fee is more for vip receivers.

He'll have to pony up hundreds down the line--again--to get the HD that he now doesn't care for but will desperately want when he unexpectedly buys a new HDTV sooner than he thinks. My aunt did the same thing and now regrets not getting the HD DVR to start with.
