Do I have a bad separator?

This is my setup. I have a 622 with one cable coming from the switch, the switch is in the attic. Then a power inserter to a Dp Plus Separator sending the signal to both tuners. This is the way the E* installer set up my system years ago.

My problem is that I am getting signal loss and blocking on channels. At first I thought it was just channels on 61.5, but have also received blocking and loss signal on channels on 110 and 119.

What I have noticed other day while watching live tv is that if I have the same channel on both tuners and swap between the two one is ok and the other is showing blocking.

I would guess the problem is after the switch and could be the separator, power inserter or the 622.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would also check the jumper cables between the DP separator and the receiver. Make sure they're are tight. I don't like a switch in the attic because these switches get hot, imagine how hot they get in the attic.

I checked all the cables from the switch to the back of the 622. All where ok.

Ya the switch does get hot and really can not cool off in the attic.

Do you know what lnbs you have for 119/110? If you have a DPP Twin you don't need the switch but you do if you have a DP Twin.

Menu, 6, 1, 3 should list the lnb you have.

OK, just wanted to eliminate the switch. I guess you could try replacing the DP separator or relocate the switch and see if that solves the problem. I still think it's the switch overheating.

If the switch was over heating why is only one tuner giving me a problem? There is only one cable going to the 622.

Because the heat could be affecting only the high frequencies. With a DP separator, Dish Pro Plus uses stacked band technology so one tuner uses the 950 Mhz-1450 Mhz band and the other tuner uses the 1550 Mhz-2050 Mhz band.

Another possibility is that one of the jumper cables is bad or it is not RG6 rated to at least 2200Mhz. Some installers have used the RG59 cable that came in the receiver's box to connect from a DP Separator to the receiver.

What other receivers do you have? You've only mentioned the 622 but if you have another dual tuner you could use the DP Separator from the other receiver to test.

Thanks for the info. There is always more to something that seems simple.

If RG59 cable can not be used with the separator that might be my problem. I think the installer used some of my old cable from when I had cable tv. The cable from the switch it RG6 but the cable coming out of the power inserter to the separator might not be.

I will have to take a look at that.

It is funny that it has worked all this time and not working now. I hope the switch is not bad.

Thanks again for the help!

I swapped the outputs of separator and it has been working fine for months.

Have you run a check switch? if not that's where you should start.
If you run check switch (menu, 3,1,1) and are missing satellites on one tuner but not the other, then flip the seperator between inputs, and rerun check switch. If the problem moves to the other tuner, then yes the seperator is your problem.
If you run check switch and all are fine, but you are still experiencing the problem, then you either have a bad switch or a bad receiver.
Do you have any other receivers, which i imagine you do or you shouldn't have a 44 switch? If so, move the power supply to another location(preferably a single tuner). You'll have to move that line to the 1st port on your 44 switch. If problem still persists you should add the protection plan and call out a tech, the service call fee will be much less than replacing the 44 or receiver yourself.

same problem

I just replaced my 622 thinking it was the equipment. Then when I hooked up the new receiver only 119 could be seen on one side. I asked for a new separator and received it yesterday. This solved all my problems so far so my guess is you are having a similar problem

The other is a 625 and everything seems ok with it.

I did a check switch and received no errors. Just for the hell of it I swapped the inputs and did another check switch and still no errors.

The funny thing is that the problem has gone away for now.

Thanks to all for your help!
