Ok, I am posting for someone else.

Someone I know just had a new Dish installed from DishNetwork and after that was installed, while the TV is on the Sprint Cell phone they have does not work. After the TV is turned off the cell phone works fine.

Could they be on the same frequency?

The satellite receiver and the LNBF on the dish are always "on," even when turned "off." If something changes when the TV is turned on, it must be the TV. It still doesn't make any sense to me, though.

Maybe home phone.
Receiver connected to landbased phoneline.
I doubt a cell.
What Signals are flying around the house besides the remotes.
just because you put up a satellite dish to receive a signal, doesn't mean the signal wasn't already there.
I mean the satellite was still in the sky before this guy got satellite service.
I'm with you Hall I'd like to see how its related? Someone will tell us ?

No joking - When I had Dish Network, if I was on my cellphone, a few of the transponders would lose signal. The signals would go from 80 down to 0.

It was weird. It was all brand new Dish Pro stuff. We had all of the coax cable replaced and it still happened. The only thing we could come up with was that since it was in an apartment and the dish was on the balcony only about 5 feet away from where we used the phone the most (our living room), the cellphone's signal caused enough noise to knock out the signal at the LNB.

Yea thats strange. I use my cell right on my deck as well,2-5 feet away and never had the wife or kids complain, Unless I put my hand over the LNBs just to piss them off.

Time to replace the TV then. Sprint is running in the 1900mhz band.

To the other poster...sounds like an ingress problem. Can't see how it would mess with the DBS band as cell phones are in the 800/1900 bands...far from 12200. But I guess it is all possible as I have heard radar detectors messing with a Superdish install.

Yea didn't really sound all that possible or common.

The superdish was replaced by the new upgraded smaller dish. The super dish was on the second story further away from the area where cell phones are used. The newer dish was placed right outside the kitchen window on the first story. After it was placed there the cell phones stopped receiving incoming calls while the television was on. I don't believe that they are on the same frequency I just think that the new satalite being placed where it is, is knocking out the cell tower signals. We are also not located in the city like most.. It's the boonies, so a few cell towers if you are lucky. I know they are running different frequency bands and the cell phone is brand new and has been replaced a time or two to ensure IT is not the problem, but the problem remains. Dish says they have no clue! Also, if it were the Television it should have happened before now.

I can think of a couple of possibilities. Either the new dish is not properly grounded or there's a coax connector to the new dish not properly installed. If it only happens when the tv is turned on, then maybe an electronic emission from the tv is feed along the shielding of the coax and being emitted at the new dish or at a coax connector hampering cell phone reception. Just a thought. The best way to find out is have someone with a portable spectrum analyser come in and watch what signal pops up when the tv is turned on and then track it down. Good luck.

I came across a situation where the signal would drop out whenever the homeowner made a call.

There is a connection, however rare, to some cell phones and satellite performance.

These devices all say that they may cause or receive interference.

Get a different cell phone.

Or maybe point the dish a little better to get a better picture. ;)

You said you have Sprint, so that would be 1900 MHz. The intermediate frequency being sent down from the dish to your receiver can interfere with that band very slightly. It's not exactly in the range but it's close enough to cause trouble especially since you said your cell reception is weak to begin with.
The dish needs to be looked at, and especially the connections, for poor fittings or frayed wiring.
If everything looks okay then the dish should be moved away from where you intend to use your cell phones.
Failing all this, consider buying a cell phone booster with an external antenna that you can put on the roof.
