Has anyone received the new software update for the VIP 211 Receiver. I see it was supposed to be rolled out on the 19th according to EKB.

I don't have the new software either (and I do turn it off)

I wonder if they're spooling it by zip codes since not everyone has it. I'll check later today.

This software update is spooling to receivers with L040-L522. If you have L523 you won't get it until probably this week.

I do shut mine down every night for the possiblity of downloads. I see I am not the only one who has not seen it as of yet.

Okay what does it mean to be able to disconnect the dvr portion of the 211? If I remove the external hard drive does that mean when I reconnect it that the receiver will reformat the hard drive again? Will I lose the timers I preset before? ANy answers would be nice. Otherwise I see no reason to ever disconnect the external hard drive.

I had my TV calibrated today and disconnected the Hard Drive. When I hooked it up again via USB, I got a compatibility message, then the receiver rebooted and everything was back to normal.

Thanks for the information. I guess the ability to move the external hard drive portion away from the 211 would be for when you move the receiver to another place/room.

I just activated a 1TB drive on my 211 last evening. Seems to be working OK. The L524 FW push made the difference. (When I first connected it with L523 the rec'r reported that the drive was outside the size req't.) I still had L523 on Mon. AM, but it had spooled L524 by Tue. AM.

One thing I noted in one of the option screens was a button to click to "Remove EHD". I didn't get to try that, but I'm thinking (hoping!) that it's like the "remove hardware" utility on a PC. IOW, by going through those steps you can remove the drive and leave it off, or (assuming nothing changes, like the FW) reconnect it without the 211 going through a reboot and guide D/L that takes at least 5 mins. (??) I'll try it tonight.

Interesting sidebar: Ii couldn't activate successfully with the call to the 800 # contained in pop-up msg. 499, so I called Tech Serv. (Fast connection to that, a great guy named "Chad" in AZ.) I had considerable "wait" time with the him as we held for reboots and EPG D/Ls, etc. I mentioned SatGuys to him. He heard about it, but apparently never looked in. When he found out that I was connecting a 1T drive he immediately said it wouldn't work to which I responded that according to "hear it first here" info in these forums I knew that L524 was the answer to that. When it successfully activated and went live, I asked the guy essentially "There, I was your first 1T activation on a 211, and Dish told you it couldn't be done. How often do you get the real scoop from your customers?" and he had a good comment about that!

I've had lockups now with 524 s/w. The EPG will freeze, then time out. Then it will re-boot.

Happened 3 times yesterday.

The EHD removal function is great.

I have two 211s and they have both started freezing and re-booting within the last few days. I only happens when I tune-in channel 2.1 (OTA, PBS). The remote then becomes useless. No response at all. Finally, after endless re-boots, the remote will work.
