VIP411 & DVR

My son has a VIP411 and since I added a EHD to my VIP211 and turned it in to a DVR he wanted to do the same thing to his VIP411 but when he called a CSR he told him that a 411 could not be upgraded to a DVR.
I don't think that this is true but I am asking here to see if I am right.
He has the same level of software that I have on my 211.

All I know is that the level that he has on his 411 is the SAME level that I have on my 211 which has been turned into a DVR with a EHD.

You can activate EHD on the 411. Several of us 411 owners have done it.

Try another CSR.

Wrong ! Double incorrect.

411 and 211 are identical by SW, just one HW component missed in 411 - network jack/port.

[For technicaly savvy ppl - 211 logs (check your EHD sometimes under Linux) demonstrating the model Id everywhere as 411 (!)].

Last info I had was the activation hadn't taken place yet and I do not know of any 411's that have the feature. Sorry for my mistaken info.

I think some people had to email the ceo address to get it activated and others went thru tech support to get it done. It is difficult but can be done.

Actually activation of 411's EHD extensively discussed in other thread (Search ?) and someone described in details why it didn't work initially and posted when Dish start activating - a few weeks ago.
