Dish Programming Changes (Effective August 1st)

It’s a sad situation but Dish exhibits all the attributes of a company in complete disarray. This is evidenced by the following:

Constantly changing their program packages and making the changes so confusing that these most current changes warrants almost 200 messages on this thread alone from people attempting to decipher (myself included) these changes.

CSR’s that are basically clueless about Dish offerings, changes one can make, various fees and other customer related issues. Further evidence of this is the tactic some of the more astute Dish subscribers employ which is to hang up on a CSR who doesn’t know about something or supplies you with incorrect information and call right back to get another CSR who usually supplies you with different information. Some have called several times to find a CSR who knows what’s going on.

Dish’s habit of arbitrarily removing channels with no notice to or consideration for its customers.

Amateurish advertising.

An AEP package that is not.

There are other examples of the disarray at this company but I think these listed ones get the point across.

What then keeps them in business? Well, believe it or not, unless you’re a sports fanatic I believe Dish has the best programming of the two satellite providers and we all know of the superiority of the receivers.

You should feel better, now!

I have a vip622, AEP ($97.98), GoldHD ($10), PlatinumHD ($10) and the DHPP ($5.99). I'm thinking of also getting locals soon which I guess will cost another five or six bucks. In language an idiot like me can understand, can someone tell me what my situation will be and how or if it will change come Aug. 1?

Its very clear. Your situation may change or may not change, or may change slightly or you may be mistaken because the package you have does not exist.

Got it?

Due to a low level of native intelligence (heredity factors) and lack of formal education, I hope someone can help me out. I have read this thread and related information at the Dish website and tried to make heads or tails of it as it applies to me to no avail.

AEP + locals= $102.98......Add On HD @$10...Platinum to be a part of Add On HD....DHPP $5.99 total $118.97. Call 12:01 am or later, 8/01 to receive credit for Platinum being included in Add On HD.

Sorry to ask in this thread, but where can I find a list of the HD channels in this "PlatinumHD" option that is going away and will instead be free to people that change their package in any way after August 1st.

Spot on. And at such time that DirecTV can sufficiently close the gap on the hardware side...many of us will be gone.

Zip, although unofficially I am hearing that current Platinum customers could see a credit on their September bill and the Platinum Charge removed. :)

If this is true it will be GREAT!

sorry... just signed up for Dish and I was a little upset because one of my channels is only offered via the Platinum package. I didnt think it was worth the 10 dollar platinum price, so I didnt get that package.
Does this news mean I'm going to end up getting it for "free' now?

I got the Silver package with Silver HD. Do I need to up to gold to get the free platinum?

lost

The million dollars question is what happens to customers that don't have the Platinum package today?

Will they get these channels for free on Aug 1st? or should they call before Aug 1st to get the package and then get the credit? :)

I have Platinum and Gold and AEP and maybe one or two other things. All I know is that Dish had better send me an email, a letter, a phone call or something before Aug. 1 and notify me in plain English what changes are being made to my package and what the monthly bill will be due to these changes. If they make drastic changes like this and charge me more than I have contracted for (and they don't let me know in advance) I'm dropping them at the end of my contract date.

Thanks for the link but it just shows logos for them. I am not familiar with most of them so still don't know what each channel is.......help someone???

  • Logo - programming focused for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community
  • Fashion TV - programming focused on fashion and modeling
  • HDNet Movies - programming includes a variety of movies and a monthly "sneak preview" of a film just prior to its theater release

  • Crime & Investigation Network HD
  • World Fishing Network - programming dedicated to the world of recreational and sport fishing
